Baseball Falls To UCCS In Game Two 6-5

COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - The Colorado State University Pueblo baseball team dropped Game 2 of its four-game series against the University of Colorado Colorado Springs, falling 6-5 on Friday afternoon at Mountain Lion Park in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Play.

The ThunderWolves looked poised for another dominant performance after their 15-2 blowout win in Game 1, jumping out to an early 4-0 lead in the first inning. Elijah Borjas got the scoring started with an RBI fielder's choice, followed by a three-run homer to right field off the bat of Brad Stone.

However, the momentum shifted in the fourth inning when UCCS erupted for six runs, including two home runs, to take a 6-4 lead. The CSU Pueblo bullpen did its part to keep the game within reach, as Danny Retzlaff and Jack Novak combined to hold the Mountain Lions scoreless over the final four innings, allowing just two hits.

CSU Pueblo mounted a late rally in the ninth, cutting the deficit to 6-5 on a solo home run by Noah Williams, but the ThunderWolves could not push across the tying run.

UCCS reliever Grant Erickson picked up the win, improving to 1-1 on the season after tossing four innings and allowing just one run. Jacob Petersheim took the loss for CSU Pueblo, falling to 5-3.

With the win, UCCS improves to 23-22 overall and 13-16 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) play. CSU Pueblo remains in fourth place, falling to 30-19 overall and 20-11 in RMAC play.

The series continues Saturday with a doubleheader featuring two seven-inning games, starting at noon in Colorado Springs.
