Women's Lacrosse Scores Season High 13 Goals in Home Setback to Ashland

Turpen and Doane Combined for Eight Goals Against Eagles

PUEBLO, Colo. - Colorado State University Pueblo women's lacrosse scored a season-high 13 goals here Sunday afternoon as the ThunderWolves dropped a hard-fought 17-13 game to Ashland University in its final non-conference action of the 2025 season at ALG Stadium.

With the loss, the Pack falls to 0-4 on the season, while Ashland improved to 2-1 on the year. 

Eight of the Pack's season-high 13 goals came from two players as freshmen attackers Moira Turpen (Newberg, Ore./Newberg) and Emily Doane (Lake Forest, Calif./El Toro) each scored four goals in the game, while sophomore midfielder Sophia Rinn (Eagle, Colo./Eagle Valley) added two goals. The four-goal game was the third in four games for Turpen as she leads the team with 13 goals, while it was Doane's first multi-goal game this season. 

After trailing 16-8 heading into the final period, the Pack scored five of the six goals in the fourth period to cut Ashland's margin to four goals. In the fourth period, Doane scored two of the Pack's goals, while Turpen, sophomore midfielder Reese Wasmund (Portland, Ore./West Linn), and freshman midfielder Sydney Gunnels (Dallas, Texas/Coppell) each scored a goal in the period. In addition, the Pack took seven shots and scored five goals. 

Ashland jumped in front 5-0 in the opening seven minutes of the game before the Pack closed the first period with three straight goals, including two goals from Rinn and goal on a free-position shot by Doane.

The Pack opened the second period with a goal from Turpen that was assisted by Doane to pull the Pack within 5-4 just 57 seconds into the period. AU would score three of the next four goals to take an 8-5 lead with 7:55 left in the period. The Pack's goal was scored by Doane off an assist by Turpen. 

Turpen would add her second goal of the game with 6:45 left in the period to pull the Pack within 8-6. Back-to-back goals by Ashland gave them a 10-6 lead before Turpen capped the scoring in the first half on a free-position shot with 26 seconds left in the period to cut AU's lead to 10-7 at the half. 

In the third period, sophomore attacker Clara Drinkwater (North Kingstown, R.I./North Kingstown) got the scoring started on a goal that was assisted by Rinn just four-plus minutes into the period that cut Ashland's lead to 10-8. The Eagles, though, would score six unanswered goals in the period to take a 16-8 lead heading into the final 15 minutes of action. 

After the Eagles opened the final period on a goal by Ashley Fisher just a little less than two minutes into the period to take a 17-8 lead, the Pack would begin it flurry of goals as Doane got its started on an unassisted goal with 8:32 left. About 48 seconds later, Wasmund scored on a free-position shot to pull the Pack within 17-10. Turpen scored her fourth goal of the game with 5:29 left in the game to move the Pack within 17-11. The final two Pack goals from Doane and Gunnels on free-position shots came in the final minute of the game. 

Fisher paced Ashland with four goals, while Tori Wanat and Rachel Crumbacher each scored three goals in the win. Fisher also added four assists for eight points. 

Doane had two of the Pack's four assists in the game as she finished with six points, while Turpen had five points thanks to four goals and an assist. 

The Pack were outshot (39-24) and lost the ground ball battle, 29-25, as sophomore goalie Breonna Mason (Colorado Springs, Colo./Air Academy) had five ground balls, while Rinn and Turpen each had four. Ashland also held a 33-19 edge in shots on goal. 

Ashland held a slight 18-16 edge on the draw as Wasmund had eight draws and Turpen added five. Crumbacher paced Ashland with nine draws. 

The Pack were credited with seven caused turnovers as Mason had three, while Ashland had 12. The teams combined for 40 turnovers in the game as the Pack had 23 and AU finished with 17. 

Mason played all 60 minutes in goal for the Pack and recorded 16 saves, five ground balls, and three caused turnovers. The 16 saves were a career high for Mason and tied for 12th most in a game in school history. 

Annie Duncan played all 60 minutes in goal for the Eagles and recorded six saves and three ground balls. 

The Pack will now turn its focus to Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play as they open RMAC play next Sunday, March 9 with a 1 p.m. game at ALG Stadium against Fort Lewis College.
