Women's Hoops Clinches Postseason Berth On Fan Appreciation Night With Big Win Over MSU Denver

PUEBLO, Colo. - The Colorado State University Pueblo Women's Basketball squad defeated MSU Denver on Fan Appreciation Night at Massari Arena on Thursday evening by posting a 72-49 victory.

With the win, the Pack are now 17-10 overall and 12-7 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play. With the loss for the Roadrunners, fall to 6-21 overall and 5-14 in league play.

CSU Pueblo currently sits in a three-way tie for fourth place with Black Hills State and UCCS. CSU Pueblo officially clinched their spot in the RMAC Tournament with their win on Thursday evening.

The Pack were led by 2x All-American Alisha Little who once again dominated with 32 points on 14-21 shooting from the field. Little continued her double-double streak to 23 games, still leading all of NCAA Division II. Little flirted with a triple-double, recording eight steals. 

Tomia Johnson had a fantastic night, complementing Little with 13 points on 4-7 shooting, including five assists and three steals. 

The ThunderWolves shot 49 percent from the field on the evening shot a scorching hot 62 percent from the field in the second half and held MSU Denver just 41 percent from the field for the night. 

ABOUT THE WIN
The Pack took an early 12-8 lead in the first quarter, exerting their dominance over the RoadRunners early on. Little settled in the game quickly, scoring nine of the 12 points in the first quarter to lead the Pack. 

MSU Denver rallied in the second quarter, taking their first lead at 19-17 and eventually extending it to four at 21-17. The Pack ended on an 8-0 run the last three minutes of the half with buckets from Little, Yara Garcia, Shamahra Henderson, and Genesis Sweetwine to give the Pack a 25-21 lead going into halftime.

CSU Pueblo came firing out the gates in the second half extending their lead to 15 in the third quarter 53 percent shooting during the quarter. Little and Johnson took over in the quarter, combining for 18 points in the period to put the game out of reach. The Pack took a 48-33 lead going into the final frame.

The ThunderWolves put the game on cruise control in the fourth, extending their lead to as many as 26 at 70-44. The Pack eventually dominantly took the game at 72-49.

UP NEXT FOR THE PACK
There are a lot of different scenarios that could happen for the Pack, including the ThunderWolves with an opportunity to host a first-round RMAC Tournament game at Massari Arena. CSU Pueblo will take on Colorado School of Mines at Massari Arena on Saturday afternoon and will await the results of Black Hills State, Adams State, and UCCS.
