PUEBLO, Colo. (February 24, 2025) - The Colorado State University Pueblo softball team split its final two games of a four-game Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference (RMAC) against Black Hills State, falling 10-2 (5 inn.) in the first game and bounced back for a convincing 14-3 (5 inn.) win in the series finale on Monday at Rawlings Softball Complex
For the day,
Delaney Barela (5th., Pueblo, Colo.),
Madelyn Huerta (Jr., Azusa, Calif.) and
Raelynn Rogers (Sr., Surprise, Ariz.) recorded three hits and
Taylor Brower (Jr., Vacaville, Calif.) went 2-for-3 at the plate in game two for the Pack.
McKenna James (Jr., Windsor, Colo.) earned the win in the circle and improves to 2-5 on the year.
Game One recap
In the first game, BHSU went ahead 2-0 after the first inning with a pair of RBI hits and in the second, CSU Pueblo manufactured its first run on a SAC bunt from
Darleen Falcon (Jr., Moreno Valley, Calif.).
BHSU added two more runs in their next at bat and built a 4-1 lead through three innings.
The ThunderWolves got another run in their half of the fourth with another manufactured run as a result of small ball and another SAC bunt.
The Yellow Jackets would scored six runs over the next two innings including three in the B4 and three more in the B5 and the game ended after the the score reached 10-2 as a result of the 8-run rule contest.
Mia Sanchez (Fr., Los Angeles, Calif.) was tagged with the loss and drops to 3-3 on the year.
Game Two recap
The ThunderWolves offense erupted in the series finale and scored 14 runs on 15 hits. CSU Pueblo jumped ahead with four runs in the first inning, highlighted by a 2-RBI singles from
Emma Case (So., Loveland, Colo.) and
Zoie Armstrong (Sr., Lincoln, Neb.).
Three more runs would score in the T2 for the Pack. Case hit a hard ground ball to short and was misplayed to score a run. Later,
Ashley Tosh (Sr., Fremont, Calif.) hit a single on the infield and
Tori Cordova (Sr., Pueblo West, Colo.) earned a walk with the bases loaded and collected a RBI.
With the 7-run lead, James had enough cushion and pitched well in keeping the Yellow Jackets from any big scoring innings.
In the game, James recorded her 100th strikeout as a member of the Pack.
BHSUÂ scored two runs in the second before CSU Pueblo went back on offense in the T3. In the frame, the Pack registered five runs on two hits. CSU Pueblo earned another bases loaded walk and a hit batter resulted in another run scoring.
Barela accounted for the third run of the inning with a SAC fly out and Huerta tallied two RBI with a double to right center.
In the fifth, two more runs would cross for the ThunderWolves after
Caitlyn Cole (Jr., Merced, Calif.) smacked a two-run single and added to the lead.
The bottom of the fifth, BHSU would score one run before the ThunderWolves retired the side and ended the game in the 8-run rule victory.
On Deck
CSU Pueblo (5-10, 4-4 RMAC) remains at home and will host Regis in a four-game RMAC series starting Friday at Noon at Rawlings Softball Complex.
