Sanchez Guareno and Retzlaff named Pack Student-Athletes of the Week

PUEBLO, Colo. (November 12, 2025) - Colorado State University Pueblo's Carla Sanchez Guareno (Sr., Tarragona, Spain) and Reggie Retzlaff (R-Sr., Corona, Calif.) have been named Pack Student-Athletes of the Week, presented by Chick-fil-A.

Sanchez Guareno delivered one of the strongest meets of her CSU Pueblo career, turning in multiple season-best swims and leading the Pack to a runner-up team finish with 499.1 points. The backstroke specialist shined brightest in the 200 IM, where she captured the event title with a season-best time of 2:12.65, headlining a 1-2 ThunderWolves finish.

She also produced a clutch performance in her signature event, the 100 backstroke, racing to a season-best 59.70 to finish runner-up, an achievement made even sweeter as she competed on her birthday.

Sanchez Guareno's consistency, versatility, and leadership set the tone for CSU Pueblo throughout the two-day meet, helping the Pack outperform both Division II opponents in the field.

Up next for Pack swim, they head to Oklahoma City this week and will compete at the Eagle Invite Nov. 14-16.

On the men's side, Retzlaff earns this week's RMAC Offensive Player of the Week accolade after catching eight passes for 82 yards and tied a season-high and hauled in three touchdown passes, including a 12-yard reception in overtime to propel the the ThunderWolves to a 41-34 overtime win this past Saturday at Mines.

In the effort, the Pack trailed  Retzlaff earns this week's Offensive Player of the Week accolade after catching eight passes for 82 yards and hauling in a season-high tying three touchdown passes, including a 12-yard reception in overtime to propel the then sixth-ranked ThunderWolves to to a 41-34 overtime win this past Saturday at Mines. Retzlaff, who has now had two three -TD outings this season, scored his first touchdown on an 18-yard reception to cut the Pack's halftime deficit to 28-13 and then added a 14-yard touchdown with 9:23 left in regulation to move the Pack with 34-27. In addition, the three touchdown catches pushed his season total to 13, which is a new single-season school mark for touchdown receptions. 

Up next, Pack football hosts Chadron State in a pivotal match-up in the regular season finale on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the ThunderBowl.
