GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. - Colorado State University Pueblo volleyball saw its impressive nine-match winning streak come to an end on Saturday night, as the ThunderWolves fell to Colorado Mesa University in four sets (16-25, 23-25, 25-23, 23-25) inside Brownson Arena in Grand Junction.
The setback marked CSU Pueblo's first loss in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play this season, dropping the Pack to 13-5 overall and 7-1 in RMAC action.
Senior outside hitter Caelyn Gunn led the ThunderWolves with 19 kills while hitting .214 and adding eight digs and two service aces in a strong all-around effort. Fellow senior Golden Finch contributed five kills and a team-high eight total blocks at the net, while Taylor Cary notched 13 kills and two block assists.
Setter Elena Stankovic directed the attack with 38 assists and added 12 digs, while libero Megan Mattingly collected 16 digs to anchor the back row.
After a slow start in the opening frame, the ThunderWolves fought hard in sets two through four, highlighted by a gritty third-set victory in which they hit .194 as a team and tallied 14 kills. CSU Pueblo posted a .166 hitting percentage overall with 50 total kills, 11 team blocks, and 69 digs in the match.
Colorado Mesa (13-5, 7-1 RMAC) was led by former ThunderWolf Sadie Scoville, who tallied a match-high 18 kills on .361 hitting, while setter Ashlyn Tafoya dished out 36 assists and 13 digs.
The Pack will look to bounce back next weekend as they continue RMAC play on the road.
