Hall of Fame Induction for Versatile Tuck

Tuck is One of Seven CSU Pueblo Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2025 Inductees

This is the fourth of seven articles highlighting the CSU Pueblo Athletics Hall of Fame Class of 2025 Inductees, and today's fourth article features former Pack women's cross country and track & field student-athlete Andrea Tuck (2012-16)

In a sport that features mostly individual events, Andrea Tuck's accomplishments as Colorado State University Pueblo's most versatile track & field athlete ever have not gone unnoticed.

On the evening of October 10, Tuck will join Reco Burt (men's basketball, 1993-1995), Rachel Espinosa (women's basketball, 2007-2011), Bryan Hawkins (wrestling, 1983-1985), Marcelo Laguera (men's cross country, track & field, 2015-2020), and Molly Rohrer (women's basketball, 2015-2018) as the newest inductees into the school's Athletics Hall of Fame at the Occhiato Student Center.

Also being inducted that evening at the Occhiato Student Center Ballroom on the CSU Pueblo campus will be contributor Jim Brooks (radio broadcaster, 1987-1991, 2010-present), who also played golf at the school in the 1980s, where he was on the school's 1981 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference championship team.

"When I got the news about the induction into the Athletics Hall of Fame, I was at work and started pacing the parking lot out of excitement," said Tuck, who works at the Boulder Police Department as a Major Crimes Detective.

"My eyes were filling with tears because I was so thankful and overwhelmed with joy," said Tuck, who has been in her job in Boulder since May 2019.  "I am thankful for this opportunity and very excited to come back and cheer on our football team and revisit people I haven't seen in far too long."

During her five seasons at CSU Pueblo (2012-2017), following her graduation from Canon City High School in 2012, Tuck competed in eight track and five field events for the ThunderWolves, highlighted by a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference pentathlon championship in 2017 and a member of the school's 4×400 outdoor winning relay squad in 2016.

"It was a goal of mine to find a campus that was welcoming and close to home so my family could continue to support me," said Tuck when considering a school after her high school graduation.  "I loved the track and the weight room, and the opportunities CSU Pueblo offered athletes to grow. I also really loved the size of the campus. It felt personal and created a sense of community. I'm proud of my choice, and it provided me with some of the best friends I have to this day!"

A school record holder in two indoor (60 hurdles and pentathlon) and three outdoor (100 hurdles, 4/x400, and heptathlon) events, Tuck is considered CSU Pueblo's best-ever all-around women's track and field athlete and was the school's first-ever women's indoor All-American.

An All-American after placing seventh in the pentathlon at the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships, Tuck said her "favorite memories were with my team. The funniest moments were at the hotel after a long weekend of competing, pushing each other through hard practice, and becoming best friends both on and off track. And there was our pumpkin carving and costume competition!"

As for those special people at CSU Pueblo, Tuck said, "everyone was and is special to me! Coach (Matt) Morris came in and saved the program.  Coach Z had to put up with me for five years. Coach Jess dedicated countless hours to creating a program to help me become the best I could be. I couldn't have had the success I had without them. Additionally, as I mentioned earlier, I still have some of the best friends from our track program. No bond compares to one where you are almost passing out from repeat 400s together."

An Exercise Science, Health Promotion, and Wellness major at CSU Pueblo, who loves to fish, ride horses, golf, and snowboard, Tuck appreciated the teachings of Carol Foust and is thankful for "all of the professors who crossed my path."

With Laguera and Tuck's addition to the CSU Pueblo Athletics Hall of Fame, the two join 12 other cross country and track & field athletes as inductees, along with coaches James Blasing and Chuck Haering.

Additionally, two Pack football players in the Athletics Hall of Fame competed in track and field at the school: Dan DeRose (2011, 1981-1984) and Frank Grant (2009, 1968-1971).
