PUEBLO, Colo. - The Colorado State University Pueblo Women's Basketball team dropped a heart-breaker to Colorado Mesa University on Thursday evening despite another stellar performance from
Alisha Little (Aurora, Colo./Northern Colorado).
With the loss, the Pack fall to 12-7 overall and 7-4 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference. Colorado Mesa improves to 14-4 overall and 9-2 in conference play. If the ThunderWolves would have won tonight, the Pack would have been in first place.
Little proved once again why she is the best player in the country, finishing with 29 points and 14 rebounds on 50 percent shooting.
Brynae Stewart (Colorado Springs, Colo./Pine Creek) joined Little in double figures with 11 points on 50 percent shooting from the field.
The Pack out-shot the Mavericks 43 percent to the Mavs 40 percent. The difference in the game was Colorado Mesa going 21-31 from the free throw line, compared to the ThunderWolves 10-15 from the charity.
ABOUT THE GAME
The Pack were only down three points after the first quarter at 14-11, after a spark from Stewart, who was perfect from the field in the quarter with six points. Colorado Mesa had a solid second quarter, extending their lead to eight after the second quarter, taking a 40-32 lead into halftime.
Stewart led all scorers at the half with 11 points. The Mavs were led by their superstar Olivia Reed who had 10 points on the night.
The Pack cut into the lead in the third quarter, cutting the lead down to two at 54-52, but Reed drilled a three to extend the lead the lead at 57-52. The Pack took their first lead of the game with 3:35 left to go in the game with a layup from Little. Unfortunately for the ThunderWolves, that was short lived as the Mavericks extended their lead, forcing the ThunderWolves to play the foul game.
The Mavericks eventually pulled out the win, remaining in first place in the conference.
