Game Recap: Women's Soccer |

Lasater's second half goal lifts CSU Pueblo over Rockhurst

HAYS, Kan (September 7, 2024) - The Colorado State University Pueblo women's soccer team picked up its first win on the young season on Saturday, beating Rockhurst 1-0 on a neutral pitch at Fort Hays State University Soccer Field in Hays, Kansas.

The win marks the first victory for CSU Pueblo under Head Coach John Constable.

The ThunderWolves broke a scoreless tie during the 70' on a goal from Sydney Lasater (Sr., Colorado Springs, Colo.), her first in a ThunderWolves uniform.

"We were not at our best today," said Constable. "First half we looked like the team that played 40 hours earlier and Rockhurst (who didn't play on Thursday) looked like the more energetic, fresher team. However, our players had a good chat amongst themselves during halftime and that plus the energy from the substitutes that entered the game sparked us in to life."

In the match, Rockhurst fired 17 shots against eight from the Pack. Lasater led a group of seven players to record a shot.

At intermission, CSU Pueblo recorded two shots and zero corners and by the end of the match, the ThunderWolves finished with eight shots, including six in the second half.

The Pack registered two corners against five earned by Rockhurst.

Of the eight shots recorded, four landed on goal for the ThunderWolves. The efforts by the Pack paid off after a flurry of substitutions resulted in the only goal scored ten minutes later.

Following the score, CSU Pueblo goalkeeper Jacqueline Dominguez (Sr., Watkins, Colo.) faced six shots and three were on target and Dominguez was able to keep a clean sheet.

The final shot of the game came with over two minutes that sailed high above the net.

Dominguez finished the game with six saves.

About the young season and moving forward, Constable added, "If we want to have a special season, we will need to grind out results when we are not at our best and that is precisely what we did today. We are proud of the group for the grit and resilience that they have shown over two games in Kansas. We are satisfied coming back to Colorado with a win and a tie."

CSU Pueblo (1-0-1) will stay on the road next week and make a California swing for a pair of nonconference matches at Cal State San Bernardino on Friday, Sep. 13 and at Cal State San Marcos on Sunday, Sep. 15.
