HAYS, Kan. (September 5, 2024) - The Colorado State University Pueblo women's soccer team opened the 2024 season on the road at Fort Hays State and battled the Tigers to a 1-1 draw on Thursday evening at FHSU Soccer Field.

For the ThunderWolves, Cameron Farthing (Jr., Coventry, England) scored the Pack's first goal of the season in the 85th minute to put the ThunderWolves on the board and tie the game in the final minutes.

First-year Head Coach John Constable had high praise for his team following the match and said, "Our team played well tonight. Fort Hays State is an established soccer program that has been at the last two NCAA tournaments. However, we went toe-to-toe with them and more than deserved the tie. We wanted the win but we will take the tie and move on. I love the never say die attitude from our team." 

Starting a new season and with fresh legs, the ThunderWolves offense was active from the onset and fired four shots and two landing on frame in the opening fifteen minutes.

CSU Pueblo registered 13 shots in the game and nine landed on goal. Sydney Lasater (Sr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) and Caytlynn Garland (So., Gillette, Wyo.) led the team with three shots each.

The teams battled to a scoreless tie through the first half that saw the ThunderWolves total six shots against two from the Tigers.

Despite the Pack being the first to the ball on several instances, the home team broke the scoreless tie in the 65th minute for a 1-0 lead.

For much of the second half, CSU Pueblo continued to fire shots at the net and caused FHSU goalkeeper Mackenzie Caldwell to make several stops until with over five minutes left in the game, Jerzie Troost (Sr., Phoenix, Ariz.) was able to boot the ball ahead to Farthing who finished with a strike to the back of the net.

Pack goalkeeper Jacqueline Dominguez (Sr., Watkins, Colo.) made two saves and surrendered one goal against four shots faced.

Up next, CSU Pueblo (0-0-1) will stay in Hays, Kansas and will battle Rockhurst on Saturday at 12 p.m. (MT) at FHSU Soccer Field.
