PUEBLO, Colo. (September 20, 2024) - The Colorado State University Pueblo women's soccer team faced another ranked opponent on Friday, falling 6-2 against No. 7 ranked Cal Poly Pomona on Friday at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium.
The ThunderWolves received scores from
Sydney Lasater (Sr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) and
Allyson Sparks (Sr., Pueblo, Colo.).
In the game, CPP doubled the ThunderWolves in shots and finished with a 16-8 advantage and controlled the ball offensively for most of the match. The Broncos earned eight corners including five in the first half.
The visitors got on the board first in the 4th minute before added a second goal ten minutes later for an early 2-0 lead.
CSU Pueblo got on the board in the 22nd minute when Lasater launched a shot from beyond the top of the box and found the back of the net for her third goal of the season.
The score went unchanged into halftime and at the time, CPP led 6-4 in shots and the ThunderWolves recorded one corner.
In the second half, the Broncos offense came alive in a big way and notched four goals over a span of five minutes and built a 4-1 lead with under 25 minutes left in the game.
The Pack cut into the lead and earned a free kick just inside the ThunderWolves attacking side in the 69th minute and Sparks booted the ball and hit the top shelf for the goal. It is Sparks' first goal this season.
CPP continued to pressure the Pack and drove the ball down field just one minute later and struck the back of the net for another goal.
The Broncos scored their final goal in the 79th minute.
For the Pack, Lasater led all players with four shots. Four other ThunderWolves registered one shot.
Elaina Leitner (Fr., Longmont, Colo.) made five saves against the active Broncos lineup.Â
CSU Pueblo (1-3-2) will go on the road next week and start Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play. The ThunderWolves will battle Fort Lewis on Friday at 7 p.m. in Durango and will take on No. 3 Mines on Sunday at 1 p.m. in Golden.
