HAYWARD, Calif. - The Colorado State University Pueblo volleyball squad concluded the Route 92 Classic with a victory over The University of Hawaii at Hilo.
With the victory, the ThunderWolves improve to 5-3 on the season, while Hilo falls to 5-5 on the season. The Pack finished the tournament with a 1-3 record, headed into Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play.
The Pack won the match three games to one, taking the first set 25-19, falling in the second 26-24, winning the third 26-24, and polishing off Hilo in the fourth 25-20.
Sadie Scoville (Pleasant Grove, Utah/Pleasant Grove),
Megan Mattingly (Phoenix, Ariz./Greenway), and
Kaitlyn Hall (Colorado Springs, Colo./Falcon) all recorded career-high's in kills.
Scoville had 21 kills, Mattingly had 13 kills, and Hall had 11 kills.
The Pack got off to a hot start, taking an early 5-0 lead with two early kills from Scoville. The Pack lead as many as seven in the first set and took the first easily.
CSU Pueblo had their opportunity in the second as they had the score at 21-21 in the second, and at 24-24, but dropped the last two points of the set, falling 26-24.
The Pack once again started off hot, taking an early 3-0 lead in the third. CSU Pueblo continued their dominance, extending their lead to six at 9-3, and ten at 16-6.
The ThunderWolves struggled to put away HIlo, letting them back in the match. Hawaii HIlo went on a 13-4 run to cut the lead to one, and eventually tied the game at 24 apiece, but
Ceanna O'Loughlin (Beaverton, Ore./Jesuit), and Scoville ended the run, putting away Hilo on two straight kills to win 26-24.
CSU Pueblo took control of the fourth, taking an early 10-4 lead and never looked back, winning 25-20.
