Game Recap: Men's Soccer |

Pack drops heartbreaker versus Dallas Baptist

PUEBLO, Colo. (September 12, 2024) - The Colorado State University Pueblo men's soccer team suffered a heartbreaking 2-1 loss against Dallas Baptist on Thursday at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium.

The No. 2 ranked ThunderWolves received a score from Jack Pascoe (Sr., Barry, Wales) during the 48th minute.

For the game, CSU Pueblo recorded eleven shots against five total from DBU. Tobi Osifodunrin (Sr., Brighton, Colo.) led all players with four shot attempts and Pascoe ended with two shots.

In the first half, the teams went toe-to-toe and battled aggressively, exchanging possession with both offenses finding limited scoring chances.

DBU made the first shot on goal in the 15' and was followed up with another shot that sailed high and out of play for a CSU Pueblo goal kick.

Following to early shots that went wide of the net, CSU Pueblo's first good look at the net came in the 35' on a strike from Caio Oliveira (Sr., Espigao d'Oeste, Brazil).

The match stayed scoreless at halftime with the Pack leading in shots by a 5-3 clip.

Entering the second half, the Pack wasted no time and forced a turnover two minutes into the half and following a ThunderWolves throw in from Ignatius DeMark (Sr., Phoenix, Ariz.) launched the ball inside the box and after a scramble, the ball went in front of Pascoe who was able to get his right foot and hit the back of the net for the 1-0 lead.

After giving up the goal, the Patriots picked up their intensity and would score the tying goal in the 59th minute.

With the game tied at 1-1, back-to-back yellow cards were issued to both teams and those players had received an earlier caution and as a result the teams had to each play a man down for the rest of the match.

The Pack made another SOG in the 68' that struck the crossbar and was cleared by the defense.

A final shot on goal from the ThunderWolves came in the 79' from Pascoe that was saved by DBU goalkeeper Patrick Banich.

With less than a minute to play, DBU earned a free kick in ThunderWolves' territory and hit the back of the net for the go-ahead and game winning goal.

Pack goalkeeper Ruben Volkert (Gr., Baden-Württemberg, Germany) allowed two goals and made two saves against five shots.

CSU Pueblo (2-1) will close the homestand on Saturday and welcome UT Tyler for a matinee match-up starting at 1 p.m. at Gonzales Stadium.
