Baseball Concludes Regular Season With Series Split At Regis

Pack Earns No. 6 Seed in RMAC Tournament, Faces Colorado Mesa in Wednesday's First Round

DENVER, Colo. – The Colorado State University Pueblo baseball squad split Saturday's double-header on the road at Regis University in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play.

Regis won game one 12-8, but the Pack responded in game two, winning 7-2.

With the 1-1 Saturday outing, the Pack conclude the regular season with a 28-11 overall record and 17-15 in RMAC play. Regis is now 29-20-1 overall and 20-12 in league play. Both teams have qualified for postseason play, which will be played next week in Grand Junction, Colo.

The ThunderWolves will be the number six seed in the conference tournament and will play number one Colorado Mesa University at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.

GAME ONE
The Pack struck first in game one, jumping out to a quick 3-0 lead after the top of the first inning. Rob Mansour (La Verne, Calif./Cuesta CC) double down the left field line to score Jeremiah Sanchez (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo West) to put CSU Pueblo up 1-0 after one inning.

Kade Snodgrass (Derby, Kan./Neosho County) scored on a wild pitch in the second inning, which was followed up by a Sanchez sacrifice fly and just like that the ThunderWolves led 3-0.

Regis answered with three runs in the third inning which was started by Tanner Rice scoring on a wild pitch. Garrett Rede proceeded to knock in a run on an RBI single to left, which was followed by a Matt Graf RBI single to left to tie the game a three apiece.

Regis continued to hit the ball well in the fourth inning when Peter Goldy doubled in a run and Rede doubled in two runs to put the Rangers up 6-3.

The ThudnerWolves clawed back in the fifth with two runs, spearhead by Castaneda drawing a bases loaded walk and a Kysen Howard (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley Northwest) sac fly to cut the Regis lead down to 6-5.

Sanchez gave the Pack faithful a spark as he hit a two-run homerun to right field in the sixth inning to briefly put the Pack up 7-6. Regis answered in the bottom half with three runs to regain the lead at 9-7.

Once again though, the Pack did not lay down. In the seventh inning, Jason Arriola (Riverside, Calif./Norco) delivered a big hit as he went oppo to left field to score Christian Castaneda (El Paso, Texas/Otero JC) and cut the Ranger lead back to one.

Regis got the run back in the bottom half when Guthrie singled to left center to put Regis up 10-8. The Rangers added two more insurance runs in the eighth to extend the lead to 12-8, which eventually was the final score of the game.

GAME TWO
The ThunderWolves bounced back nicely in game two behind a stellar performance from Nick Perry (Denton, Texas/Richland JC) as the senior went four strong innings (seven inning game), allowing just two runs to earn his second win of the season.

Regis scored the first run of the game in the bottom of the first inning when Matt Graf singled through the left side to put the Rangers up 1-0.

The ThunderWolves responded well in the top of the second inning when Kolton Miller (Parker, Colo./Ponderosa) drove in a run with an RBI single up the middle to tie the game. Cody Macias (San Diego, Calif./Granite Hills) gave the Pack the lead when he hit a rocket to right field, driving in two runs to put the Pack up 3-1. The Pack were able to tack on one more run when Rob Mansour (La Verne, Calif./Cuesta College) singled to right field and the Pack led 4-1 after the top of the second.

The Pack continued to pour it on in the fourth inning, scoring three more runs to extend the lead. Sanchez singled in a run to right center, which was following up by Mansour knocking in a run on an infield single. Castaneda concluded the scoring in the fourth when he ripped a single to center, scoring Sanchez.

Levi Padilla for Regis knocked in a run in the bottom of the fourth inning on a single to right center and that concluded the scoring for the rest of the game.

Kade Douglas (Lakewood, Colo./Hill College) pitched two strong innings in relief for Perry as the junior did not allow a run, allowing just three hits. Jake Olguin-Pacheco (Denver, Colo./Horizon) and Jacob Petersheim (Broadway, Va./Broadway) closed out the final inning, securing the victory for the Pack.
