Women's Lacrosse Closes Out 2024 Season at Home Against No. 7 Regis

Mason Ties School's Single-Season Save Mark in Sunday's Finale

PUEBLO, Colo. – Colorado State University Pueblo women's lacrosse closed out its 2024 season here Sunday afternoon with a 16-4 setback to No. 7 ranked Regis University in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action at ALG Stadium.

With Sunday's setback, the ThunderWolves close the 2024 campaign with a 2-12 overall record and an 0-10 mark in the league for the second consecutive season, while Regis, who has already claimed its fifth straight RMAC regular season, moves its record to 16-1 overall and 10-0 in the RMAC. It marked the fourth time in the last five seasons that Regis went undefeated in league play.

Despite the setback, CSU Pueblo freshman goalie Breonna Mason (Colorado Springs, Colo./Air Academy) capped her inaugural collegiate campaign in record setting fashion as he recorded 10 saves in Sunday's game and those 10 saves pushed her season total to 154 saves, which ties former Pack goal Ane Marie Horton for first on the school's single season saves chart. Horton recorded 154 saves in 2018.

The 154 saves this season by Mason are second most in the league behind UCCS's Madison McGriff, who has recorded 173 saves on the season. In addition, the 154 saves were the most in a season by a Pack goalie Ane Marie Horton tallied 152 saves in 2021.

While Mason tied a single season record with her 10 saves, she also added two ground balls to push her season total to 58, which is tops on the team and second most in a season in program history.

The Pack offense, which was held to just four goals against the nationally ranked Rangers, was paced by two goals each from senior midfielder Baylee Mee (Reno, Nev./Galena) and freshman midfielder Sophia Rinn (Eagle, Colo./Eagle Valley). Mee's two goals pushed her season total to 22 and she closes out her career with 70, which is seventh-most on the school's career charts. Rinn's two goals were a career high.

Mee was one of six Pack senior players who played their final games of their collegiate careers on Sunday against Regis as this year's other seniors are midfielder Caira Lessick (Oregon City, Ore./Oregon City), defender Maddie Miller (Colorado Springs, Colo./Pine Creek), defender Samantha Schmidt (Littleton, Colo./Dakota Ridge), attacker Sedona Sargent (Bellingham, Wash./Sehome) and defender Paige Scarbrough (El Cajon, Calif./Helix Charter).

Regis controlled Sunday's season finale from the start as they scored three goals in a spn of three minutes to open the contest and led 8-0 after the opening 15 minutes of play. The Rangers would then score four straight goals to open the second period to take a 12-0 lead and force the clock to run the remainder of the game.

The Pack would finally find the scoreboard on an unassisted goal by Rinn with 2:49 left in the period to cut Regis' lead to 12-1 at the half.

Mee would score the Pack's second goal of the game off an assist by sophomore attacker Audrey Allendorf (Stow, Ohio/Stow-Munroe Falls)  just a little over four minutes into the third period.

Justine Spahr would score a goal with 2:55 left in the period to give Regis a 13-2 lead heading into the final period.

Regis would outscore the Pack, 3-2, in the fourth period to cap the scoring. The Pack's goals in the period came from Mee off an assist by Sargent and Rinn off an assist by Mee. Mee completes her career with 37 assists, which are second most in a season in program history.

The Pack were outshot in the game, 32-12 and Regis also held a 34-25 advantage on ground balls. Sophomore attacker Elise Magee (Port Moody, British Columbia/Dr. Charles Best Secondary) led the way with five shots, while Miller finished with a team-high four ground balls.

Magee recorded four of the Pack's five draw controls in the game as Regis held a 17-5 edge in that category. Mee had the other Pack draw control to push her career to 208, which is second-most on the school's all-time chart. Mee is one of two Pack players in the school history (the other being current Pack head coach Taylor Ward) to record 200 or more draw controls in a career.

The Pack did finish the game with 17 caused turnovers as that pushed its season total 136. Mee finished with five, while Allendorf added three.

Regis got four goals from Bailey Truex, while Maggie Schipfer added three goals and Lauren Sheets and Lily Ferguson each had two goals in the win. Gabby Rothermund and Sheets each had three assists, while Megan Bunker added two assists. Bunker had eight draw controls and Sarah Hanson tallied six ground balls.

Regis was 16-for-17 on clears, while the Pack finished 12-for-20 on clears on the day.

Mason (2-12) played all 60 minutes in goal and had those nine saves as she had at least two saves in three of the four periods, including four saves in the second period.

Elizabeth Myotte (14-1) played all 60 minutes in goals and allowed four goals, made two saves, had four ground balls and one ground ball.
