DALLAS, Texas – Colorado State University Pueblo women's tennis continued its spring break here Tuesday morning with a 7-0 setback against Lone Star Conference foe Dallas Baptist in a regional match held at the Patriot Tennis Center on the DBU campus.
The match was the first of two scheduled for Tuesday as the ThunderWolves will conclude its spring break trip with a 3 p.m. match in Wichita Falls, Texas, against NCAA Division II fifth-ranked Midwestern State.
With Tuesday's setback, the Pack falls to 0-7 on the season and 1-2 on its spring break road trip as their first two matches of the trip were exhibitions against Seward County Community College (5-0 loss) and Collin County Community College (4-3 win). Dallas Baptist improves to 14-2 on the year.
In Tuesday's match against the Patriots, the Pack dropped all three doubles matches to give DBU their first point of the match.
The No. 2 doubles team of junior
Valentina Brienza (Rionero in Vulture, Italy/University of the District of Columbia) and junior
Marta Garcia (Alcala de Hernares, Spain/Cardinal Stritch) took two games off DBU's tandem of Jenny Payne and Sarah Castleberry as they fell 6-2.

Malaya Pendon (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo East) and freshman
Yelena Travica (Winnipeg, Manitoba/Maple Collegiate) fell 6-1 at No. 3 doubles to Emily Buchanan and Sarah Stewart.
The Pack's No. 1 doubles team of sophomore
Margot Aebischer (Etupes, France/Eastern Arizona College) and freshman
Mariangel Nunez (Weston, Fla./Unidad Educativa "Padre Claret") were shutout 6-0 by DBU's No. 1 team of Caroline Hudson and Madalyn Smelley, who improved to 11-1 on the season.
Meanwhile, in singles action, the Pack won a total of nine games in six matches as DBU posted 6-0, 6-0 sweeps at No. 4, No. 5 and No. 6 singles.
The Pack won one game at No. 3 singles as Nunez fell 6-1, 6-0 to Isabella Arana Rios, while Aebischer took two games off Hudson at the No. 1 spot. Aebischer fell 6-1, 6-1 to Hudson.
Brienza was able to keep her match at No. 2 singles with Smelley close throughout as Smelley picked up back-to-back 6-3 wins to complete the match and improve her singles record to 15-3 on the season.
The Pack, who play at No. 5 Midwestern State later in day on Tuesday, will play its first home match of the spring season on Thursday, April 4 as they Stanislaus State for a 1 p.m. contest at the Pueblo City Park Tennis Complex.
