ThunderWolves lose two at West Texas Invite

CANYON, Tex. (February 9, 2024) - The Colorado State University Pueblo softball team lost the first two games on Friday at the West Texas Invite, falling 9-4 against Texas A&M-Kingsville in game one and lost 16-1 against No. 4 West Texas in the second game.

On the day, Juliannah Jimenez (Fr., Elk Grove, Calif.), Isabella Hewitt (So., Firestone, Colo.) and Zoie Armstrong (Jr., Lincoln, Neb.) each hit their first home runs of the season.

The ThunderWolves collected 11 hits in the two games and four extra-base hits.

The Javelinas scored the first runs of the game and took a 2-0 lead after three innings before the ThunderWolves got on the board in the top of the fourth on a solo shot from Jimenez.

CSU Pueblo tied the game later in the inning on a RBI double hit by Hewitt, scoring Darleen Falcon (So., Moreno Valley, Calif.).

TAMKU jumped ahead 7-2 during their half of the fourth and would extend the lead to seven runs through six innings.

In their last at bat in the seventh, the Pack responded with two runs led by Hewitt's solo home run and the second coming by way of a defensive error.

McKenna James (So., Windsor, Colo.) was tagged with the loss and falls to 0-3 on the year.

West Texas Recap
Facing the No. 4 ranked Lady Buffs for a second time in two weeks, the ThunderWolves were unable to get the offense started and was limited to six hits in the game. Caitlyn Cole (So., Merced, Calif.) finished with two hits.

The lone run for the Pack came during the third inning when Armstrong stepped in and belted a home run to help avoid the shutout.

Jacelynn Trujillo (Sr., Pueblo, Colo.) suffered the loss in the circle and drops to 1-1 on the season.

On Deck
The ThunderWolves return to the diamond for two more games Saturday against Eastern New Mexico at 10:15 a.m. and another match-up with West Texas starting at 2:45 p.m. at Schaeffer Park in Canyon, Texas.
