Women's Basketball Picks Up Big Road Victory; Move Up In RMAC Standings

Little Breaks All-Time Colorado Collegiate Women's Basketball Blocks Record

LAKEWOOD, Colo. – The Colorado State University Pueblo women's basketball squad picked up a huge road win against Colorado Christian 79-70 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference.

With the win, the ThunderWolves improve to 14-11 overall and 9-8 in the RMAC, while Colorado Christian falls to 13-10 overall and 9-8 in the RMAC. More importantly, with the win, the Pack move up into a tie for seventh place with Colorado Christian.

The Pack used balanced scoring and strong defense to secure the victory. The Pack outscored Colorado Christian 52-26 in the paint and held the Cougars to just 39 percent shooting. CSU Pueblo never trailed in the game.

Redshirt junior forward Alisha Little (Aurora, Colo./Northern Colorado) made history in Friday's game as she became the all-time leader in blocked shots in the state of Colorado Women's Collegiate Basketball history as she passed Kim Good of Colorado School of Mines (1999-02) at the 1:09 mark in the third quarter, recording her 287th career block. Little finished with three blocks on the night to up her career total to 288. In addition, Little recorded her 18th double-double of the season with 21 and 10 rebounds. She is tied with Lauryn Taylor of Francis Marion for the most double-doubles in NCAA Division II.

Junior guard Shamahra Henderson (Denver, Colo./Cowley County CC) put together a solid performance as she scored 13 points on 5-of-7 shooting and pulled down four rebounds

Redshirt junior forward Autumn Watts (Centennial, Colo./McNeese State) continued her fine play, scoring in double-digits for the sixth straight game as she scored 12 points and pulled down six rebounds.

Grad. Student guard Romola Dominguez (Denver, Colo./Central Arkansas) made her presence known on both sides of the ball as she scored 12 points, dished out three assists, and had six rebounds.

HOW IT HAPPENED
The Pack started off the game strong and never looked back. On the first possession of the game the Pack set the tone, going into Little as she banked in an easy layup to get the night going. The Pack shot 50 percent in the first quarter and held Colorado Christian to just 27 percent. Little and Watts both had six points in the opening frame to lead the ThunderWolves to an 18-14 opening lead.

The Pack continued their hot shooting in the second quarter as they shot 69 percent from the field and held Colorado Christian to just 23 percent. Little continued her dominant performance as she scored seven more points in the quarter, and had 13 and 8 going into the break.

Colorado Christian's leading scorer and the RMAC leading scorer Maggie Hutka (20.4 ppg) was held to just eight points in the first half on 2-of-6 shooting, and the Pack led 41-26 going into the break.

Colorado Christian finally started to get into a rhythm in the third quarter, shooting 38 percent in the quarter on 7-of-18 from the field. The Pack shot 6-of-17 from the quarter, good enough for 35 percent and matched the Cougars 19 points in the quarter. Dominguez led the Pack in the quarter in scoring with five points, while Hutka scored six points for the Cougars.

Trailing 60-45 to start the fourth quarter, the Cougars started off on a 6-0 on three straight buckets from Hutka to cut the lead down to single digits, prompting Tommie Johnson to take a timeout. Nine is as close are the Cougars would get it to as the Pack opened the lead back up to 14 after buckets from Little, Henderson, along with freshman forward Leilani Love (Albuquerque, N.M./Albuquerque) and junior guard Tomia Johnson (Colorado Springs, Colo./Florida Gulf Coast). Leading by 14 with five minutes left to go, the Pack kept their composure and finished out the game.

Some last second shots from Colorado Christian made the score closer than it was and the Pack pulled the victory 79-70.

The Pack continue their road quests as they travel to Chadron, Neb., tomorrow as they take on Chadron State at 5:15 p.m. Chadron State comes into the match-up 6-15 overall and 4-13 in RMAC play. Fans can watch the game on the RMAC Network, or listen to the game on 1350 AM Fox Sports Pueblo.
