Cross Country Concludes NCAA South Central Regional In Denver With 5th & 6th Place Finishes

DENVER, Colo. - The Colorado State University Pueblo Cross Country programs wrapped up the 2024 NCAA Division II South Central Regional at Washington Park in Denver, with the men's team finishing fifth, and the women taking home sixth.

The top three teams on both the Men's and the Women's side receive automatic qualifiers (AQ's) into the National Championship on November 23rd in Sacramento, Calif.

The top-three teams on the men's side were Colorado School of Mines, Adams State, and West Texas A&M.

The top-three teams on the women's side were Adams State, Colorado School of Mines, and UCCS.

The No. 15 Nationally ranked men's team finished in fifth place out of 24 teams, with 145 points. The men will have a very good chance to advance to Nationals with an at-large bid, and will learn their fate Monday afternoon.

The No. 3 Nationally ranked women's team finished in sixth place out of 26 teams, with 150 points. Just like the men, the women will have a very good chance to be chosen as an at-large team to advance to Nationals on Monday afternoon.

The men's squad was led by their European Big Guns, Matisse Virey (Meyzieu, France), and Reece Sharman-Newell (Hampshire, England), as the one-two punch for the ThunderWolves earned All-Region Honors with top-25 finishes.

After coming off a regular season individual win in Colorado Springs, Virey continued his strong season with a 19th place finish in Denver, running a time of 32:10.12 in the 10k event.

Sharman-Newell, who has been hindered by injury this fall, returned to the lineup and made his presence known, as the 2023 All-American ran a time of 32:21.96 to finish 25th.

The women's squad was also led by their two European one-two punch, as Helen Braybrook (Frieston, United Kingdom), and Margot Thomas-Gatel (Chapet, Ile-de-France, France) both brought home All-Region honors.

Braybrook continued her dominance, as the 2023 All-American picked up right where she left off, finishing seventh in the freezing cold temperatures, running a time of 22:01.56.

Thomas-Gatel was not far behind, as the Frenchie finished in 21st, running a superb time of 22:33.31.

The ThunderWolves will await to hear if they are chosen as at-large selections on Monday Afternoon at 5:00 PM EST.
