Garland's brace leads ThunderWolves in shutout win over Highlands on Senior Day

PUEBLO, Colo. (November 3, 2024) - The Colorado State University Pueblo women's soccer team closed out its home portion of its schedule in a strong way and shutout New Mexico Highlands 2-0 thanks to a brace scored by Caytylnn Garland (So., Gillette, Wyo.), her first goals of the season, on Sunday for Senior Day at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium.

Prior to the game, CSU Pueblo Head Coach John Constable and his staff and players honored and recognized the careers of eight departing seniors who made their final appearance at home with the ThunderWolves.

In the game, CSU Pueblo made 11 shots and earned five corners against four shots and three corners from NMHU.

One of the celebrated seniors, Sydney Lasater (Colorado Springs, Colo.) led all players with five shots and one SOG. Lasater helped assist Garland on both of her goals in the contest.

Garland helped to get the ThunderWolves on the board during the 27th minute and powered through the Cowgirl defense and received a pass in stride and hit a one-timer past the reach of NMHU goalkeeper Peyton Greener for the one goal lead.

At the break, CSU Pueblo made four shots and earned three corners.

In the second half, the always reliable defensive back line trio of Sienna Gargano (Sr., Washington, Utah), Jerzie Troost (Sr., Phoenix, Ariz.) and Ariadna Membrives Lora (Sr., Sabadell, Barcelona) were dominant throughout the match and limited NMHU to no shots in the first period and only four shots and three SOG overall.

The duo of Lasater and Garland connected again in the 65th minute and gave the ThunderWolves a 2-nil lead.

Pack goalkeeper Elaina Leitner (Fr., Broomfield, Colo.) earned her second straight clean sheet and made three saves and faced the four Cowgirl shots.

Up next, CSU Pueblo (4-9-4, 3-6-2 RMAC) will go on the road and finish the season on Wednesday at UCCS starting at 2PM at Mountain Lion Field. Originally scheduled for a 7PM kickoff and due to inclement weather in the forecast in the region on Wednesday evening, both teams agreed to change the time of kickoff.
