Volleyball Drops Friday Night Duel At Home Against Regis

PUEBLO, Colo. - The Colorado State University Pueblo Volleyball squad had their six game winning streak snapped at home on Friday Night versus Regis, falling three games to one.

With the loss, the ThunderWolves fall to 10-4 on the season. Tonight's match did not count as an official Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference game, rather it counted as an RMAC pod game, therefore the Pack remain in a tie for first place with MSU Denver at 4-0 in conference play.

With the win, the Rangers improve to 6-7 on the season, and remain 3-1 in conference play.

Rayliene Joens (Elkhorn, Neb./Winona State) led the way for the Pack on the offensive end, leading the team with 12 kills.

Kendall Schmitz (Lee's Summit, Mo./Arkansas-Fort Smith) led the way in assists for the Pack with 18 on the night.

ABOUT THE GAME

CSU Pueblo dropped the first set, despite leading 20-16, went on an 8-0 run to take a 24-20 lead. The ThunderWolves fought back with kills from Kaitlyn Hall (Colorado Springs, Colo./Falcon) and Ceanna O'Loughlin (Beaverton, Ore./Jesuit) to cut the lead to 24-23, but Regis polished off the ThunderWolves with a dagger from Braiziah Dixon, giving Regis a 25-23 win.

CSU Pueblo answered in the second set, winning 25-22, but it was with stress once again, as Regis made a late run in the set to make it close. The ThunderWolves led 18-13 after Hallie Hewlett (Bountiful, Utah/Bountiful) hit a perfectly executed service ace.

Regis clawed their way back, getting the score to as close are two at 22-20, but the run was stopped by Josey Nunn (Kingwood, Texas/Porter) and O'Loughlin. CSU Pueblo eventually took the second 25-22.

The third set proved to be the most important one of the set. The ThunderWolves had three opportunities to win the match, holding set point at 24-23, 25-24, and 26-25. Also in the set, the Pack had huge lead at 17-9, but could not hold on to give themselves a huge 2-1 advantage.

Regis eventually took the third in extras, winning 28-26.

Regis continued their momentum in the fourth set, winning big 25-10 to win three games to one.
