GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (October 27, 2024) - The Colorado State University Pueblo women's soccer team saw a late-game rally fall short 3-2 on Sunday at No. 22 Colorado Mesa at Community Hospital Unity Field.
The ThunderWolves received scores from
Ariadna Membrives Lora (Sr., Sabadell, Barcelona) and
Cortney Cowles (Sr., Colorado Springs, Colo.).
The scores came just under six minutes apart in the 78th and 84th minutes.
For the match, CSU Pueblo registered five shots and had two SOG. Cowles scored her first goal of the year and led the ThunderWolves offense with two shots.
CMU earned eleven corners against one from the Pack.
The home team took a 2-0 lead into halftime after the Mavericks scored in the 22nd and 41st minutes. At the break, CMU led 10-2 in shots and earned seven corners.
In the second half, Colorado Mesa added another goal in the 54th minute before the ThunderWolves defense settled the pace of the game.
Leading by three, CSU Pueblo's first good look at the net came on a shot from
Carlia Johnson (Jr., The Valley, Anguilla) that sailed high.
The Pack's offense came together and drove the ball into the offensive zone and earned a penalty with just about ten minutes to play. Membrives Lora stepped in and converted the penalty and scored her second goal of the year.
Cowles possessed the ball and found enough space and fired a shot into the net and bring the Pack to within a 3-2 deficit.
Over the final minutes of play, CSU Pueblo was unable to get a shot off.

Elaina Leitner (Fr., Longmont, Colo.) allowed three goals and made eight saves against eleven shots on goal.
CSU Pueblo (3-9-3, 2-6-1 RMAC) will return home next week and complete the home portion of the regular season. The Pack will take on Adams State on Thursday at 7 p.m. and will hold Senior Day on Sunday against New Mexico Highlands, starting at Noon. Both matches at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium.
