GOLDEN, Colo. - The Colorado State University Pueblo Volleyball team dropped Friday Night's match three games to one on the road at Colorado School of Mines.
With the loss, the ThunderWolves fall to to 12-7 overall, and 6-3 in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play, while the Orediggers improve to 7-12 overall, and 4-5 in conference play.
The Pack were led by
Rayliene Joens (Elkhorn, Neb./Winona State), as the senior led the ThunderWolves with 16 kills on the night, while hitting .265.Â
Braelyn Woodworth (Gilbert, Ariz./Perry) anchored the defense for the Pack, leading the way with 12 digs.Â
CSU Pueblo also had good production from
Josey Nunn (Kingwood, Texas/Porter), as the Texan led teh ThundeWolves with three blocks on the night.
The Pack were unable to slow down Hannah Kinnison as she led all scorers with 20 kills, hitting .529.Â
Holding late leads has been the downfall for the Pack this season, and it bit them once again tonight to a Mines team who has not played on the same level as the ThunderWolves this year.
CSU Pueblo had a 20-16 lead in the first set, but could not hold on. A 4-0 run tied the score at 20-20, prompting Head Coach
Austin Albers to take a timeout. CSU Pueblo and Mines threw haymakers back and forth, but Mines prevailed in extras, 29-27.
Mines kept the momentum on their side in the second set, leading as many as six, but the ThunderWolves did not quit, going on a 7-0 run to briefly take a 21-20 lead.Â
The Pack could not hold the lead, eventually dropping the second set 25-23.
Albers, looking for a spark, entered
Macy Wood (Sandy, Utah/Alta) and
Taylor Cary (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Rock Canyon), and that is exactly what happened.
The Pack dominated the third, leading by as many as seven, and a reverse sweep was not out of the question.
The ThunderWolves did not let the heckling Mines crowd faze them.Â
CSU Pueblo once again lost a late lead in the fourth set, as the Pack were up 22-21, but a late run from the Orediggers won them the match, as Mines won the fourth 25-23.Â
