GRAND JUNCTION, Colo./SALT LAKE CITY, Utah - The Colorado State University Pueblo Volleyball Team looks to remain perfect in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play, as the ThunderWolves are back in action tonight in Grand Junction to take on No. 16 Colorado Mesa University, and tomorrow against Westminster.
The Pack have been on fire as of late, winning six out of their last seven matches to start off with a 10-4 overall record, and a 4-0 record in conference play. The Pack most recently had their six-game winning streak snapped at home last Friday versus Regis, however the game only counted as a pod game, and not an official RMAC loss.
CSU Pueblo sits atop the RMAC at 4-0 along with the No. 2 Nationall Ranked Metro State Roadrunners.
ABOUT THE PACK
The Pack are led by their 2023 All-American
Sadie Scoville (Pleasant Grove, Utah/Pleasant Grove), as the junior leads the squad with 174 kills, averaging 3.63 kills/per set, along with a.264 hitting percentage. Scoville's kills/per set average ranks fourth in the RMAC. Scoville is also a defensive menace, as she also leads the team in digs with 129, and is fourth on the team in blocks with 23. Scoville is a big threat from the serving line as she leads the team in service aces with 20. In addition to her statistics, Scoville won the Steel City Showcase Most Valuable Player to begin the season.
Freshman
Hallie Hewlett (Bountiful, Utah) continiues to be unfazed by her lack of collegiate experience, as the Utah Native has really stepped up in the injury absence of senior Captain
Sabrina King (Parker, Colo./Lutheran). Hewlett leads the team in assists by a wide margin with 253 at 5.27 assists per set, which is 12th in the RMAC.
Rayliene Joens (Elkhorn, Neb./Winona State) has really come on strong since becoming healthy, as she had put together a string of solid performances. She has reached double-digits in kills in the last three games (10-10-12), and her hitting percentage has been incredible the last four games, as the senior is hitting a whopping .502 in the last four.
The ThunderWolves are lead by Head Coach
Austin Albers, who is in his sixth season leading the Pack. Albers is second in school history in wins, as the young coach from South Dakota has put together an 87-54 career record at CSU Pueblo.
ABOUT THE MAVERICKS
Colorado Mesa comes into Friday night's match-up sporting an 11-3 overall record, and a 3-1 record in RMAC play. The Mavericks only loss in conference play was at the hands of No. 2 MSU Denver. Colorado Mesa most recently is coming off a victory at home last Saturday versus Western Colorado.
The Mavs are led on the offensive end by Sydney Leffler, as she leads the team with 198 kills. Sabrina VanDeList is an assist wizard as she leads the conference in assists with 588.
The Mavs defense is anchored by Allison Waller, as she leads the Mavs with 183 digs, while Nicole Martin leads the team in blocks with 37.
Colorado Mesa is led by Head Coach Dave Fleming, who is in his 20th season leading the Mavs. Fleming leads all active RMAC coaches with 367 career wins (367-178).
ABOUT THE GRIFFINS
Westminster comes into Saturday afternoon's match-up sporting a 6-7 overall record, and a 2-2 record in conference play. The Griffins started off conference play 2-0, but have dropped two straight RMAC games, most recently to Colorado School of Mines, and MSU Denver. In addition, Westminster has also dropped their last two matchups, which were regional pod games to Colorado Mesa, and Western Colorado.
The Griffins are led on the offensive end by Clair Cook, as she leads the team with 134 kills. Leila Cornejo is the assist leader for Westminster, as she has dished out 267 assists this season.
The Griffins defense is anchored by Alanna Lee, as Lee has put together 224 digs for an average of 4.31 digs per set, which is sixth in the RMAC. Mailei Myers has 49 blocks on the season for an average of 0.94 blocks per set, which is ninth in the RMAC.
Westminster is led by Head Coach Sue Dulaney, who is in her third season leading the Griffins. Dulaney is 24-42 in her three seasons in Salt Lake City.
