PUEBLO, Colo. (September 3, 2023) - The Colorado State University Pueblo women's soccer team played to its second straight tie of the weekend after a second half goal, scored by
Cortney Cowles (Jr,. Colorado Springs, Colo.) in the 63rd minute helped the ThunderWolves finish in a 1-1 draw against Lubbock Christian.
Cowles connected on her first goal of the season after
Carlia Johnson (Jr., The Valley, Anguilla) took a throw in pass on the far side and drove the ball around the defender and centered a pass ahead to Cowles who gathered the ball and hit a laser into the net.
During the match, CSU Pueblo fired eight shots and earned three corners, while the Lady Chapparals recorded ten shots and six corners.
Cowles and
Ashley Bennett (So., Lakeville, Minn.) both finished with a team high three shots.
The first half was played to a scoreless tie with both teams battling throughout.
LCU got on the board first during the 49th minute after the visitors took a shot that was saved by Pack goalkeeper
Nicole Genis (Sr., San Jose, Costa Rica) and LCU hit the rebound past the reach of Genis.
The ThunderWolves intensity increased after the goal and the offense started the more aggressive play which resulted in the tying goal 15 minutes later.
Tied at 1-1 apiece, both teams would find limited changes at the net before the final horn.
Genis finished with five saves at the net.
CSU Pueblo (0-0-2) continue its home stand Friday and host Newman at 7pm at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium.
