DENVER, Colo. (September 28, 2023) - The Colorado State University Pueblo women's soccer team dropped its first RMAC match of the season, falling 3-1 at MSU Denver on Thursday at The Assembly Athletic Complex in Denver.
CSU Pueblo received its goal from
Cortney Cowles (Jr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) during the 71st minute to help the ThunderWolves avoid the shutout.
In the match, the ThunderWolves offense was sparked by three shots off the foot of
Ashley Bennett (So., Lakevill, Minn.) and midfielder
Jacquelyn Kosegarten (Jr., Puebla, Mexico) recorded two shots.
The first half was a back-and-forth affair with the teams exchanging possession to remain scoreless until moments before intermission when MSU Denver found the back of the net to take a 1-0 lead into break.
In the half, CSU Pueblo fired two shots and earned two corners.
Starting the final period, the Roadrunners added a goal less than five minutes into the half to take a 2-0 lead.
The home team added another goal less than ten minutes later during the 58th minute and hold a three goal advantage.
Cowles and the ThunderWolves was able to break the shutout with a goal in the 71st minute when Bennett and
Cameron Farthing (So., Coventry, England) came together and dished the ball to Cowles who struck the back of the net to get the ThunderWolves on the board. Bennett and Farthing both earned assists on the play.
The Roadrunners defended any ThunderWolves attack over the last twenty minutes to secure the 3-1 outcome.

Nicole Genis (Sr., San Jose, Costa Rica) made one save against nine shots from MSU Denver.
CSU Pueblo (2-2-4, 0-1-2 RMAC) will next play Sunday at Colorado Christian starting at 1 p.m. in Lakewood.
