No. 7 CSU Pueblo posts 2-0 clean sheet win over MSU Denver

PUEBLO, Colo. (September 28, 2023) - No. 7 Colorado State University Pueblo men's soccer earned another clean sheet victory and defeated MSU Denver 2-0 in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference opener for both teams on Thursday at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium.

The ThunderWolves received goals from Will Boyle (So., Fort Collins, Colo.) and Shjon Andrews (Sr., Longmont, Colo.) with assists going to Ricardo Schroeder Jr. (Sr., Parana, Brazil) and Caio Oliveira (Sr., Espigao d'Oeste, Brazil).

"We played some excellent stuff tonight," said Pack Head Coach Oliver Twelvetrees. "Fantastic for Will Boyle to score his first collegiate goal and put in a man of the match performance and another amazing header from a special player in Shjon Andrews."

In the match, CSU Pueblo outshot MSU Denver 10-4 and Andrews along with Gabriel Campora (Sr., Saltillo, Mexico) led the team with two shots each.

The Pack got on the board during the 13th minute when Schroeder Jr. passed the ball wide left to Boyle who drove the ball inside the box and hit a left foot strike low and inside the post for his first goal of his Pack career.

In the 25th minute, the ThunderWolves received a free kick from 40 yards out and Oliveira placed a beauty of a ball high and above the defense, allowing Andrews to climb over the defense and get a header on the ball, striking the top of the net for the 2-nil advantage.

At halftime, CSU Pueblo led 4-0 in shots and earned four corners.

The ThunderWolves defense had another stellar game and held the Roadrunners to four shots, the first not coming until the second half.

Pack goalkeeper Tristan Whitlock (So., Lincoln, Neb.) made two saves in full minutes at the net.

"Defensively we were elite with Ignatius DeMark (Sr., Phoenix, Ariz.) winning everything around the box. All eyes now are on Sunday's rematch with Mines," Twelvetrees added.

CSU Pueblo (7-1-1, 1-0-0 RMAC) returns to the pitch on Sunday and will battle Colorado School of Mines in a rematch contest from just over a week ago. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. at Gonzales Stadium.
