ThunderWolves and Mines finish in 1-1 tie

PUEBLO, Colo. (September 24, 2023) - The Colorado State University Pueblo women's soccer squad earned its second straight tie to start Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play, battling Colorado School of Mines to a 1-1 draw on Sunday at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium.

Sophomore Ashley Bennett (Lakeville, Minn.) scored the lone goal during the 17th minute after settling a throw-in ball served in by Jacquelyn Kosegarten (Jr., Puebla, Mexico) to give the ThunderWolves the 1-0 lead.

CSU Pueblo managed four shots in the match led by Bennett's two attempts.

The Pack defense had a strong outing and was able to defend the Orediggers potent attack throughout the match. Mines fired 17 shots in the match and tied the game during the 44' after a pair of blocked shots in front of the net and after a deflection, the offense was able to hit the back of the net, tying the game moments ahead of intermission.

In the second half, both teams battled in unseasonably warm temperatures on the pitch and the ThunderWolves back line of Sienna Gargano (Jr., Washington, Utah), Kia Comstock (R-Jr., Rock Springs, Wyo.) and Ariadna Membrives Lora (Jr., Sabadell, Barcelona) played exceptionally well in shutting down the Orediggers offense.

The ThunderWolves registered one corner against 12 from CSM.

Pack goalkeeper Nicole Genis (Sr., San Jose, Costa Rica) made six saves in full time in the net.

CSU Pueblo (2-1-4, 0-0-2 RMAC) will hit the road for the first time this season and play Thursday at MSU Denver and Sunday at Colorado Christian.
