PUEBLO, Colo. (September 21, 2023) - The Colorado State University Pueblo women's soccer team opened Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play against Fort Lewis and played the Skyhawks to a 1-1 draw on Thursday at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium.
Katie Bean (R-Jr., Bothell, Wash.) scored her first goal of the season during the 62' for the ThunderWolves.
In the match, Fort Lewis out shot the Pack 12-8 and the Pack earned two corners.
Offensively,
Cortney Cowles (Jr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) and
Lainee Vujcich (Jr., Pueblo, Colo.) both fired off two shots and four others finished with one shot.
The teams went into halftime scoreless with the Skyhawks registering three shots against one from the Pack.
The ThunderWolves broke the scoreless tie after a corner kick resulted in a scramble in front of the Skyhawks goal and Bean was able to get her body on the ball and it bounced into the net for the score.
FLC got possession on CSU Pueblo's side of the pitch and their offense was able to get a shot past the Pack goalkeeper, knotting the game at 1-1 with 15 minutes left in regulation.
The Pack defense stepped up in a big way over the last ten minutes and was able to fend off four scoring chances by the visitors, to keep the score unchanged.
Pack goalkeeper
Nicole Genis (Sr., San Jose, Costa Rica) made eight saves and faced 12 shots.
CSU Pueblo (2-1-3, 0-0-1 RMAC) will finish the season-long seven game homestand on Sunday and host No. 15 Colorado School of Mines at 1 p.m. at Gonzales Stadium.
