No. 4 ThunderWolves take down Hillcats in home opener

PUEBLO, Colo. (September 14, 2023) - The No. 4 Colorado State University Pueblo men's soccer team saw its win streak reach three games after posting a 3-1 win over No. 13 Rogers State in the ThunderWolves' home opener at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium.

CSU Pueblo received goals from Gabriel Campora (Sr., Saltillo, Mexico, Shjon Andrews (Sr., Longmont, Colo.) and Ricardo Schroeder Jr. (Sr., Parana, Brazil).

"Really proud of the performance tonight," said Pack Head Coach Oliver Twelvetrees. "To come back from 1-0 down showed our character. We got fantastic goals from Ricky, Shjon and Gabo who gave us what we deserved in the end against a quality team."

In the match, the Pack registered seven shots and were led by two shots by Campora.

Rogers State struck first with a goal in the 14th minute before the ThunderWolves gathered their composure and buckled down on defense and at midfield.

The Pack tied the game during the 26th minute when Campora received a ball from Noe Ortiz Pena (Sr., Aurora, Colo.) for the equalizer.

The teams went into halftime knotted at one apiece. In the first half, CSU Pueblo managed three shots and two corners.

Coming out of intermission, CSU Pueblo's offense quickly gained possession and during the 50th minute, Ignatius DeMark (Sr., Phoenix, Ariz.) tossed in a long throw-in ball high and above the defense that found Andrews who landed a header goal past the diving keeper.

Twelve minutes later, in the 61st minute, the Pack offense intercepted the ball and Aden O'Hara (Jr., Melbourne, Fla.) booted the ball from beyond midfield ahead to Schroder Jr. who then blasted a shot from the top of the box for the score.

Pack goalkeeper Tristan Whitlock (So., Lincoln, Neb.) faced four shots in the match and had no saves with no shots landing on goal from the Hillcats.

Twelvetrees added, "Our overall strength and depth in our squad helped us get the result tonight with a real team effort."

CSU Pueblo (4-0-1) returns to action on Saturday at 1:30 p.m. and welcome Oklahoma Christian for a nonconference tilt at Gonzales Stadium.
