DENVER, Colo. – The Colorado State University Pueblo women's tennis team fell 7-0 here Saturday afternoon to Hawai'i Hilo in a non-conference match played at MSU Denver's Assembly Athletic Complex.
With the setback, the ThunderWolves fall to 0-10 on the season, while Hawai'i Hilo improves to 8-8 on the year.
In Saturday's match, the Pack won a total of five games across the six matches that were played as the matches at No. 5 and No. 6 singles and No. 3 doubles were not played as Hawai'i Hilo won by default.
The two teams opened Saturday's match by playing doubles and the Vulcans came away with the doubles point as they won all three matches, including by default at the No. 3 spot, to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
In doubles, the Pack won only one game and that came at the No. 2 spot as redshirt junior
Alyssa Wells (Converse, Texas/Judson) and sophomore
Avery Soto (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo County) took one game off Nanami Okamoto and Hikari Osaki as they fell 6-1. The other doubles team of freshman
Olivia Ivankoe (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Mountain Vista) and sophomore
Malaya Pendon (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo East) fell 6-0 to Akari Ichikawa and Julia Barden.
Meanwhile, in singles play, Ivankoe won four games at No. 1 singles over Ichikawa, 6-3, 6-1. The four games won by Ivankoe were the most in the match by a Pack player.
The other three singles matches (No. 2, No. 3 and No. 4), the Vulcans won each match by identical 6-0, 6-0 scores to seal its match victory.
Hawai'i Hilo also won by default at both No. 5 and No. 6 singles.
CSU Pueblo will conclude the 2022-23 season next Saturday, April 15 as they travel to Grand Junction, Colo., for a 10 a.m. match against Colorado Mesa.
