Women's Tennis Falls in Final Match of 2022-23 Season at Colorado Mesa

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. – The Colorado State University Pueblo women's tennis team closed out its 2022-23 campaign here Saturday with a 7-0 shutout setback against Colorado Mesa at the Elliott Tennis Center.
 
With the setback, the ThunderWolves complete the season with an 0-11 record, while Colorado Mesa improved to 12-11 on the season.
 
In Saturday's season finale, the Pack played all nine of the matches (the three doubles matches count as one point) as they won a total of six games against the Mavericks with three of those games coming in the second set at No. 4 singles by junior Sonrisa Bustamante (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo Central) against Paige Furin.
 
In doubles play, Mesa won all three matches by identical 6-1 scores to earn the doubles point and take a 1-0 lead in the match.
 
In singles play, Mesa took a 2-0 lead in the match following its 6-0, 6-0 win at the No. 2 spot as Macy Richards defeated redshirt junior Tilly Blasdale (Dover, United Kingdom/The Kings School Canterbury). It was just the second match in the spring for Blasdale as she played in the Pack's spring opener against the University of New Mexico.
 
Sophomore Malaya Pendon's (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo East) match at No. 6 singles with Mesa's Della Maier was the next match to finish as Maier won, 6-0, 6-0 to give Mesa a 3-0 lead in the match.
 
Mesa sealed the match win at No. 5 singles as Kristen Thomas defeated sophomore Avery Soto (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo County) in straight sets (6-0, 6-0).
 
The next match to finish was Bustamante's at the No. 4 spot. After Furin won the first set, 6-0, Bustamante battled hard in the second set before ultimately falling, 6-3.
 
Redshirt junior Alyssa Wells (Converse, Texas/Judson) fell 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 3 spot to Julianna Campos and freshman Olivia Ivankoe (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Mountain Vista) fell 6-0, 6-0 at the No. 1 spot to Mesa's Issy Coman.
