CHADRON, Neb. (April 27, 2023) - The Colorado State University Pueblo softball team lost a pair of Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference games on Thursday at Chadron State. The ThunderWolves fell 13-1 (5 inn.) in the first game and 12-9 in the nightcap at CSC Softball Field.
The ThunderWolves were led by
Caitlyn Cole (Fr., Merced, Calif.) and
Darleen Falcon (Fr., Moreno Valley, Calif.), both finished with four hits. Cole scored three runs and two RBI while
Jill Bishop (Sr., Brighton, Colo.) brought in 4 RBI in game two.
In the opener, CSU Pueblo had four hits in the game and
Tori Cordova (So., Pueblo West, Colo.) hit the lone extra-base hit, a double with one out in the third inning.
Costly errors from the Pack was the difference in the first game as CSU Pueblo committed four errors in the game.
Pack starting pitcher
Jacelynn Trujillo (Jr., Pueblo, Colo.) took the loss and drops to 9-11 on the year.
In the second game, Cole put the Pack on top early, 1-0 with a solo home run in the first inning. It is her 12th home run of the season.
Chadron State went on a scoring barrage and scored nine runs in the first three innings and built a 9-1 lead.
The ThunderWolves chipped away at the lead and would score eight runs over the last four innings.Â
In the fourth inning for the Pack,
Marissa Robertson (Fr., Rocklin, Calif.) hit a two-run bomb with one out to get the Pack within six.
The ThunderWolves added two more runs in the fifth on a 2-run single by Bishop.
CSC jumped ahead 12-5 in the fifth after putting up two runs in their half of the fifth.
CSU Pueblo tacked on three more runs in their next at-bat in the sixth.
In the frame, CSU Pueblo's
Ashley Tosh (So., Fremont, Calif.) was hit by the pitch with the bases loaded and later in the inning, Bishop crushed a two-run double to left center.
Down four runs entering the seventh, the Pack scored one run on an RBI-single by Cole and was unable to get the tying run to the plate, falling 12-9.
In the circle,
Lucy Carney (So., Lakewood, Colo.) fell to 8-10 on the year.
CSU Pueblo (20-29, 15-25 RMAC) will finish the season with one last doubleheader on Friday starting at 11 a.m. at CSC Softball Field.
