DENVER, Colo. - The Colorado State University Pueblo women's lacrosse team continued its season-ending three-game road swing here Wednesday evening as the ThunderWolves fell 22-2 to seventh-ranked Regis University in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action at Regis Turf Fields.
With the setback, the Pack dropped its eighth straight game as they fall to 1-12 overall and 0-9 in the RMAC, while Regis improved to 14-1 overall and 8-1 in the RMAC. The Pack will conclude the 2023 season with a 4 p.m. game on Friday, April 28 in Colorado Springs, Colo., against UCCS.
In Wednesday's game, the Pack were outshot, 30-13, including being outshot 17-5 in the first half as the Rangers jumped out to a 14-2 lead at the half. The 13 shot were a season low for the Pack. Regis also held a 25-8 edge in shots on goal.
Both of the Pack's goals were scored within six minute span of the second period as senior midfielder
Caira Lessick (Oregon City, Ore./Oregon City) scored her 19th goal of the season off an assist by senior midfielder
Sedona Sargent (Bellingham, Wash./Sehome) with 11 minutes left in the second period to cut Regis' lead to 11-1. Nearly six minutes later, Sargent scored an unassisted goal to make the score 12-2 in Regis' favor.
Regis scored eight goals in the first period and added six goals in the second period to lead 14-2 at the half, and then they scored four goals in both the third and fourth periods to set the final score.
Regis spread their goal scoring amongst 10 players as Becky Goetsch led the way with four goals, while Shea Murphy and Bailey Truex each scored three goals in the win. Madeline Schallmoser, Tia Krats and Lucy Johnson each tallied two goals for the Rangers. Gabby Rothermund had three assists, while Schallmoser and Johnson each had two assists.
Sargent and Lessick combined to take nine of the Pack's 13 shots as Sargent took five and Lessick had four shots.
Regis held a 19-13 edge on ground balls as Lessick had five ground balls and the Pack was credited with 10 caused turnovers as Lessick had five caused turnovers.
Freshman midfielder
Katie Broom (Houston, Texas/Spring) had six of the Pack's 13 draw controls. Regis had 14 with Rothermund picking up six of those draw controls.
The Pack had 18 turnovers, while Regis committed 11 turnovers in the game.
Sophomore goalie Nicole Price-Burton (Aurora, Colo./Grandview) played all 60 minutes in goal for the Pack as she had three saves, a ground ball and a caused turnover.
Brigit Goetsch played 30 minutes in goal for Regis as she allowed two goals, had two saves, two ground balls and a one caused turnover. Elizabeth Myotte played the second half and recorded four saves and had a ground ball.
