Women's Tennis Closes Home Schedule With Setback to Colorado Mesa

PUEBLO, Colo. – Colorado State University Pueblo women's tennis closed out the home portion of its 2022-23 season schedule here Sunday with a 7-0 shutout loss to Colorado Mesa at the Pueblo City Park Tennis Complex.
 
With the setback, the ThunderWolves fall to 0-9 on the season, while Colorado Mesa improves to 10-10 on the year.
 
In Sunday's match, the Pack won a total of 10 games, with eight of those wins coming in singles action.
 
The two teams opened Sunday's action by playing doubleheader and the Mavericks came away with the doubles point as they won all three matches, including winning by default at the No. 3 spot, to take a 1-0 lead in the match. Mesa won at No. 1 doubles, 6-2 and won 6-0 at No. 2 doubles.
 
In doubles, Makenna Livingston and Halle Romero won 6-2 at No. 1 over freshman Olivia Ivankoe (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Mountain Vista) and sophomore Malaya Pendon (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo East), while at the No. 2 spot, Issy Coman and Macy Richards won 6-0 over junior Sonrisa Bustamante (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo Central) and redshirt junior Alyssa Wells (Converse, Texas/Judson).

Meanwhile, in singles play, the Mavs won its first point at No. 6 by default and then took a 3-0 lead in the match with Richards' 6-0, 6-1 win at the No. 2 spot over Pendon.
 
The Mavs sealed its win with a 6-0, 6-0 win at the No. 1 spot by Coman over Ivankoe.
 
Wells fell by identical 6-0, 6-0 scores at the No. 5 spot to Delia Maier and then sophomore Avery Soto (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo County) fell 6-3, 6-0 at the No. 4 spot to Kristen Thomas.
 
The match of the day came at the No. 3 spot as Bustamante took four games over two sets off of Paige Furin. Furin would win the match, 6-2, 6-2.
 
CSU Pueblo will close out its 2022-23 season with a 10 a.m. match on Saturday, April 15 at Colorado Mesa.
