DENVER, Colo. – The Colorado State University Pueblo women's tennis team fell 7-0 here Saturday afternoon against MSU Denver at the Assembly Athletic Complex.
With the setback, the ThunderWolves fall to 0-8 on the season, while MSU Denver improved to 11-6 on the season.
In Saturday's match, the Pack won a total of 16 games, with 14 of the games coming in singles action.
The two teams opened Saturday's match by playing doubles and the Roadrunners came away with the doubles points and they won all three matches, including by default at the No. 3 spot, to take a 1-0 lead in the match.
In doubles, Kayla Myburgh and Lily Stienemeier won 6-1 at the No. 1 spot over freshman
Olivia Ivankoe (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Mountain Vista) and sophomore
Malaya Pendon (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo East), while at the No. 2 spot, Kambra Rose and Sanya Singh defeated junior
Sonrisa Bustamante (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo Central) and redshirt junior
Alyssa Wells (Converse, Texas/Judson), 6-1.
Meanwhile, in singles play, Ivankoe fell at the No. 1 spot to Kinsey Fields, 6-4, 6-0. The four games won by Ivankoe were the most in the match by a Pack player.
At No. 2 singles, Pendon fell, 6-1, 6-1 to Monica Guarin, while Bustamante fell at No. 3 singles to Kim Heddes, 6-1, 6-1.
Sophomore
Avery Soto (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo County) fell 6-1, 6-1 at No. 4 singles to Singh.
Wells won four games at No. 5 singles over Myburgh as Myburgh won 6-2, 6-2.
The Roadrunners won by default at No. 6 singles.
CSU Pueblo will return to action at 11 a.m. on Sunday, April 2 at the Pueblo City Park Tennis Complex against Colorado Mesa. Sunday's match will mark the final home match of the season for the Pack.
