Pack splits Saturday DH against Adams State

PUEBLO, Colo. (April 1, 2023) - The Colorado State University Pueblo softball team earned a split on day two against Adams State University, winning the first game 5-2 and falling 9-3 in the series finale at Rawlings Sports Complex.

On the day, Caitlyn Cole (Fr., Merced, Calif.) and Madelyn Huerta (Fr., Azusa, Calif.) each totaled three hits in two games. Cole hit her team-leading eighth homerun of the year during game one.

Tori Cordova (So., Pueblo West, Colo.) and Darleen Falcon (Fr., Moreno Valley, Calif.) both recorded two hits for the ThunderWolves.

In game one, CSU Pueblo took a 2-0 lead after Rogers came around to score on a wild pitch and later in the inning, Huerta hit an RBI-single to center field.

The Pack added another run in the second inning on a RBI-groundout from Rogers to give the Pack a 3-0 lead.

Following a scoreless third and fourth inning by both teams, Adams got on the board in their half of the fifth inning and plated two runs against Pack starting pitcher Marissa Robertson (Fr., Rocklin, Calif.). The Grizzlies chased Robertson from the game with no outs in the inning.

Lucy Carney (So., Lakewood, Colo.) came on in relief and avoided further damage and got out of the inning. 

In their next time on offense, the Pack scored two runs in the fifth on the two-run blast hit by Cole.

Carney did her part in limiting the Grizzlies to three hits and no runs allowed in three innings pitched. She improves to 7-7 on the season.

In the series finale, the ThunderWolves recorded six hits and was led by Cordova's two hits in the contest.

After a scoreless first two innings, Adams State scored five runs on five hits to take a 5-0 lead. 

The Pack got on the board in their half of the third on a groundout on the infield.

Adams got the run back in the fourth and the Pack tacked on two runs in their next at-bat in the fourth. 

Aggressive base running from the Pack accounted for the third run of the game.

Adams State scored three more runs over the last three innings and the Pack offense was held to two hits over the rest of the game, falling 9-3.

Jacelynn Trujillo (Jr., Pueblo, Colo.) was tagged with the loss and drops to 3-8 on the year.

CSU Pueblo (12-23, 7-19 RMAC) remains home next week and will play Colorado Mesa in a four-game series starting Friday at Noon at Rawlings Sports Complex.
