ThunderWolves takedown Grizzlies in nightcap; drop game one

PUEBLO, Colo. (March 31, 2023) - Battling wind gusts in the mid-30s throughout the day, the Colorado State University Pueblo softball team earned a split of its first doubleheader against Adams State on Friday at Rawlings Sports Complex.

CSU Pueblo racked up 18 hits on the day including five extra-base hits. Raelynn Rogers (So., Surprise, Ariz.) led with four hits on the day and Caitlyn Cole (Merced, Calif.) and Darleen Falcon (Moreno Valley, Calif.) each hit home runs for the ThunderWolves.

In the first game, both teams scored a run in their first time on offense and ASU took a 3-1 lead in the second inning.

CSU Pueblo evened the score in the third inning when Cole hit a RBI-double and she would come around to score on an error from the defense.

The Pack took a 7-5 lead after scoring four runs in the fifth inning. Jill Bishop (Sr., Brighton, Colo.) hit a two-run double to left and coupled with a two-run homerun over the left field wall from Falcon gave the ThunderWolves momentum.

ASU would score eight runs over the next two innings and the ThunderWolves put up three runs in the sixth but was unable to rally in the seventh, falling 13-10.

In game two, CSU Pueblo's offense came alive early. In the first, Rogers came around to score after she reached on a single on the infield in the lead-off.

Madelyn Huerta (Fr., Azusa, Calif.) hit an RBI-single later in the first to put the Pack ahead 2-0.

In their next at bat in the second inning, the ThunderWolves capitalized on six defensive miscues by the Grizzlies and Delaney Barela (Jr., Pueblo, Colo.) scored on a throwing error from the Grizzlies.

The ThunderWolves erupted for six runs on three hits and three ASU errors to go up 9-0.

The inning was highlighted by a pair of RBI hits, two sac fly outs and a couple of wild pitches.

In the circle, Jacelynn Trujillo (Jr., Pueblo, Colo.) limited the Grizzlies to two hits and no runs allowed in five innings of work. Trujillo faced 19 batters and fanned 3 and gave up one walk.
