PUEBLO, Colo. (February 18, 2023) - The Colorado State University Pueblo softball team split its opening Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference games against Regis University, winning the first game 3-1 and dropped a tough 9-7 (9 inn.) decision in the nightcap.
On the day,
Madelyn Huerta (Fr., Azusa, Calif.) picked up four hits in the two games and gathered four RBI.
Jill Bishop (Sr., Brighton, Colo.) added two RBI for the Pack.
In the first game,
Lucy Carney (So., Lakewood, Colo.) improved to 3-0 and went the distance and allowed one earned run and scattered six hits. She finished with five strikeouts.
The Pack scored all three runs in the fifth inning when Huerta hit an RBI single and was followed up with a 2-run triple from Bishop.
In game two, CSU Pueblo took a 2-0 lead in the first inning on RBI singles from Huerta and
Marissa Robertson (Fr., Rocklin, Calif.).
The Pack scored single runs in the middle innings and Regis offense put up seven runs over the 5th thru 7th innings to take a 7-5 lead going into the bottom of the seventh.
Huerta executed a 2-run single in the home half of the seventh, tying the game at 7-7.
After a scoreless eighth inning for both teams, the Rangers scored two runs on a single to right field. In their last chance on offense, CSU Pueblo was retired with the tying run at the plate.
CSU Pueblo (6-3, 1-1 RMAC) concludes the series on Sunday with two more games starting at 11 a.m. at Rawlings Sports Complex.
