ThunderWolves win series against Mustangs

PUEBLO, Colo. (February 12, 2023) - The Colorado State University Pueblo softball team won its second weekend in a row to start the young season, taking home two-of-three games over Western New Mexico, following a 8-3 Pack victory on Sunday at Rawlings Sports Complex.

Freshman pitcher Marissa Robertson (Rocklin, Calif.) was strong in the circle and picked up the win after throwing a complete game and allowed three runs and one earned. Robertson scattered three hits and finished with two strikeouts, improving to 2-0 on the year.

Robertson also recorded an RBI-double in the fifth, it was one of four hits in the inning from the Pack.

The ThunderWolves scored in each inning except the third and totaled five runs in the last two innings to take a commanding lead.

CSU Pueblo earned a pair of doubles and swiped three bases in the game.

Madelyn Huerta (Fr., Azusa, Calif.) continued her hot start to the season and finished with two hits and two RBI, and now leads the team with ten hits.

Ashley Tosh (So., Fremont, Calif.) also ended with two hits and two RBI.

Robertson and the ThunderWolves defense was able to escape a jam in the fifth inning and gave up just two runs and left the bases loaded. The Mustangs added one more run in the sixth on single through the infield but a double play groundout on the infield ended the inning.

The Pack turned yet another double play after Raelynn Rogers (So., Surprise, Ariz.) handled a line drive at third and quickly threw over to first to complete the play.

CSU Pueblo (5-2) will stay at home next week and begin Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play against Regis. The four-game series starts Saturday at Noon at Rawlings Sports Complex.
