Men's Lacrosse Concludes Two-Game Trip to Kansas City With Setback to Davenport

Terry, Lessley Combine For Four Goals Against Panthers

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The Colorado State University Pueblo men's lacrosse team concluded its two-game trip the Show-Me-State here Sunday by falling 15-5 in a non-conference, neutral site game to Davenport University that was played at Rockhurst University's Bourke Field.

With the setback, the ThunderWolves fall to 0-3 on the young season, while Davenport improves to 1-1 on the year. The Pack opened its trip to Kansas City with a 22-6 loss on Friday at Rockhurst.

In Sunday's game, the Pack took 21 shots and put 12 shots on goal as junior midfielder Ezra Terry (Shreveport, La./Hendrix College) and freshman midfielder Lane Lessley (Lakewood, Colo./Lakewood) each scored two goals, while senior attacker Logan Naves (Highlands Ranch, Colo./Highlands Ranch) added his team-leading fifth goal of the season in the setback.

Davenport, who doubled up the Pack's shots as they took 42 in the game and put 29 shots on goal, jumped out to a 4-0 lead after the first period and led 7-0 with 3:29 left in the second period before Lessley scored the Pack's first goal off an assist from senior midfielder Ian Noonan (Wilmington, Del./University of Tampa) with 2:18 to go in the first half to cut DU's lead to 7-1 going into halftime.

Terry and Naves would each score man-up goals to open the third period to bring the Pack within 7-3 with 9:38 remaining in the third period. Terry's goal was assisted by freshman midfielder Chris Easley (Southington, Conn./Weber) and Naves goal was assisted by Terry.

DU, though, would come back and score two straight goals to push its lead to 9-3 with 4:17 left in the third period, before Lessley added his second goal of the game as he scored unassisted with 2:31 left to bring the Pack within five goals at 9-4.

The Panthers would take a 10-4 lead into the final period thanks to a goal by Jayden Ashley with 15 seconds left in the period. Ashley scored seven goals to pace Davenport in Sunday's game.

Terry would open the scoring in the fourth period as he took a pass from redshirt senior attacker Trevor Thompson (Sacramento, Calif./C.K. McClatchy) and scored a man-up goal just a little under 90 seconds into the final period to bring the Pack within 10-5.

DU, though, would come back and put the game out of reach as they scored the final five goals of the game, including three goal flurry in a span of nearly three minutes that put the Panthers in front 13-5.

In addition to Ashley's seven goals, Trent Eichbauer, Dylan Day and James Johnston each had two goals for the Panthers. Ashley also added three assists for 10 points, while Johnston had five assists to go with his two goals for Davenport.

Lessley had two goals on six shots, while Naves and Easley each took four shots in the game fro the Pack.

DU held a 40-23 edge in ground balls as graduate student goalie Ethan Ferrie (Littleton, Colo./Arapahoe) had a team-high five ground balls, while freshman defender Alex Kragen (Pleasanton, Calif./Amador Valley) and senior midfielder Turner Dirk (Strathmore, Alberta/Holy Trinity Academy) each had four ground balls on the day.

Ferrie also caused two turnovers and Terry had three points thanks to his two goals and an assist.

The Pack were 11-for-22 on face-off attempts with freshman midfielder Bryce Campbell (Meridian, Idaho/Meridian) taking all but one of those face-off attempts.

In goal, Ferrie played all 60 minutes and recorded 14 saves, while DU played two goalies with Daniel Milano allowing just one goal and recording five saves in the first half, while Chase Fisher played the second half and allowed four goals and made two saves.

CSU Pueblo had 28 turnovers to 20 for Davenport and the Pack were 3-for-4 on extra-man opportunities as DU was whistled for four penalties that were four minutes in length, including a two-minute illegal body check penalty in the third period.

The Pack will return to action on Saturday, March 4 as they travel to Salt Lake City, Utah to face Lynn University in a 1 p.m. MT game at Westminster (Utah) College. The Pack's first of three homes this season is scheduled for Saturday, Apr. 1 as they host Adams State for a 2 p.m. Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference match-up.
