PUEBLO, Colo. – One day after being held to a season-low 49 points in a 49-37 victory over Eastern New Mexico, the Colorado State University Pueblo women's basketball team completed its own Thanksgiving Classic here Saturday evening by scoring a season high 90 points and shooting a season-high 47 percent from the field and 50 percent from the 3-point line in earning a 90-58 victory over Baptist Bible College at Massari Arena.
Saturday's victory was the third straight for the ThunderWolves as they improve its record to 4-3 overall and 3-0 at home, while Baptist Bible is 5-2 on the season. The game marked the final regular season non-conference contest of the season for the Pack, who open Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play next weekend.
The Pack made a season-high 11 3-pointers in the game, including a 4-for-5 effort from downtown from junior guard
Landri Hudson (Aurora, Colo./University of Wyoming) as she was one of four Pack players in double figures with 14.
In addition to Hudson, redshirt junior forward
Alisha Little (Aurora, Colo./Northern Colorado) led the way with 19 points, six rebounds, three steals and two blocks, while freshman forward
Leilani Love (Albuquerque, N.M./Albuquerque) tallied 15 points and added 10 rebounds for her first career double-double and junior guard
Tomia Johnson (Colorado Springs, Colo./Florida Gulf Coast) also had 15 points and added five assists and three steals.
The Pack jumped out to an 18-9 lead just five minutes into the first quarter, before Baptist Bible used a trey from Josie Sullivan to cut the Pack lead to 18-12 with 4:26 left in the period. Following that trey, the Pack responded by closing out the first quarter on a 15-4 run to take a 33-13 lead after 10 minutes of play. Little scored nine of her 19 points in the quarter as the Pack shot 79 percent from the field and made four of their five 3-point shot attempts.
CSU Pueblo would open the second quarter on a 15-7 run to push its lead to 28 points at 48-20 following a 3-pointer from junior guard
Shamahra Henderson (Denver, Colo./Cowley County CC) with four minutes left in the period. The Lady Patriots, though, closed the period on a 9-3 run to cut the Pack's halftime lead to 51-29.
Baptist Bible, who played a game on Friday at UCCS, opened the third quarter by scoring 19 of the first 23 points to push within seven points at 55-48 with 4:17 left in the period. That would be as close as the Lady Patriots would get as the Pack responded with a 12-0 run to close the quarter to push its lead out to 67-48 heading into the final period. The run was keyed by a combined nine points from Johnson (5) and Little (4).
The final period belonged to the Pack as they pushed their lead to as much as 35 points at 88-53 following a driving lay-up by senior forward
Teona Pop Stojanova (Skopje, Macedonia/Dodge City CC) with 1:34 left in the game. BBC capped the scoring with a basket by Haylie Larsen with 21 seconds left. The Pack outscored the Lady Patriots, 21-7 in the fourth quarter.
Sullivan paced Baptist Bible with 14 points, while Abby Woolsey added 11 points.
While its offense shot 47 percent from the field and 50 percent from the 3-point line, the Pack defense held Baptist Bible to 28 percent shooting from the field and 32 percent shooting from the 3-point line.
The Pack held a 40-39 advantage on the boards and dished out 20 assists on 31 made baskets. The Pack also had 13 steals as they forced the Lady Patriots into 24 turnovers that led to 22 points.
The Pack committed 14 turnovers, with 11 of them coming in the second half and blocked four shots to push its season total to 41 blocks.
BBC bench outscored the Pack, 20-18, but the Pack held a 38-2 edge in points in the paint.
The Pack was also strong at the free throw line as they made 15 of their 18 attempts and shot 83 percent from line. Little was 6-for-6 at the line, while Love was 5-for-6 at the line. BBC shot 65 percent (13-for-20) from the free throw line.
CSU Pueblo will now turn its attention to RMAC play as they open league play next weekend (Dec. 1-2) with back-to-back home games against Chadron State on Dec. 1 at 5:30 p.m. and against Colorado Christian on Dec. 2 at 4 p.m.
