Strong Fourth Quarter Helps Propel Women's Basketball to Home Victory Over Langston in Al Kaly Shrine Classic

Little Records Double-Double of 23 Points and 14 Rebounds and Adds Seven Blocks in First Home Game of Season

PUEBLO, Colo. – Trailing 50-42 heading into the fourth quarter, Colorado State University Pueblo women's basketball outscored Langston 27-14 in the fourth stanza to post a come-from-behind 69-64 victory over the Lions in the Al Kaly Shrine Classic held in Massari Arena.
 
Saturday's game was the first home game this season for the Pack as they improved to 2-3 on the young season, while Langston fell to 4-2. Langston opened the Al Kaly Shrine Classic with a 77-73 loss Friday to Colorado Christian.
 
Redshirt junior forward Alisha Little (Aurora, Colo./University of Northern Colorado) led the way for the Pack with double-double of 23 points and 14 rebounds and blocked seven shots, while freshman forward Leilani Love (Albuquerque, N.M./Albuquerque) added 15 points and redshirt junior forward Autumn Watts (Centennial, Colo./McNeese State) tallied 14 points and nine rebounds.
 
Little's seven blocks were one shy of her school record tying eight blocks that she recorded against Fort Lewis on Feb. 19, 2022.
 
The Pack opened the fourth quarter on a 9-2 run to cut the Lions' lead to 52-51 following three free throws by junior guard Landri Hudson (Aurora, Colo./Wyoming). Langston, though, responded with a 6-2 run to extend its lead back out to 58-53 with 6:33 left in the quarter.
 
Following that run by the Lions, the Pack used a 9-0 run keyed by five points from Little and a three-pointer from Hudson to take a 64-58 lead with 1:37 remaining in the game. After a lay-up by Kamesha Moore brought Langston within 64-60 with a minute left, the Pack made 5-of-6 free throws over the final 30 seconds to hold off the Lions and secure its second victory of the young season.
 
Litlte, Hudson and Watts combined for 20 of the Pack's 27 fourth-quarter points as Little scored scored nine points and had seven rebounds in the period, while Hudson scored six of her 11 points in the quarter and Watts tallied five points, four rebounds and three assists.
 
The Pack needed that fourth quarter rally after Langston outscored the Pack 18-11 in the third quarter to extend its 32-31 halftime lead to 50-42 after three quarters of play. In the third period, Langston shot 47 percent from the field and held a 14-7 edge on the boards, while the Pack was held to 27 percent shooting from the field in the quarter.
 
Both teams struggled to score in the opening 10 minutes as the two teams combined to make just eight of their first 35 shots (22.9 percent) and scored a combined 24 points as the score was tied at 12 after the first quarter.
 
In the second quarter, the Pack shot 64 percent from the field, but Langston was able to overcome that hot shooting by the Pack as they made 10 of 11 free throws to outscore the Pack, 20-19, to take its one-point halftime lead. Langston shot just 7-for-33 (21.2 percent) from the field in the first half but was 14-for-15 at the free throw line. The Pack shot 14-for-31 (45.2 percent) from the field in the opening half.
 
Langston was paced offensively by 16 points and 11 rebounds from Hailey Jordan, while Moore added 12 points off the bench. Langston held a 38-11 edge in bench points for the game.
 
For the game, the Pack shot 40 percent from the field, but was just 3-for-20 (15 percent) from the 3-point line, while Langston shot 28 percent from the field and 17 percent (4-for-24) from the 3-point line.
 
The Pack, who had a height advantage in the game, was outrebounded 48-44 and committed 17 turnovers that led to nine points for the Lions. Langston had 13 turnovers that led to 16 points for the Pack.
 
Junior guard Tomia Johnson (Colorado Springs, Colo./Florida Gulf Coast) finished with six assists, three steals and seven rebounds. The Pack held a 17-9 edge in assists in the win.
 
Both teams combined to shoot 50 free throws in the game as the Pack was 18-for-27 (66.7 percent) from the line, while Langston was 20-for-23 (87 percent) at the line.
 
The Pack will return to action next weekend as they host two games as part of its annual Thanksgiving Classic as they host Eastern New Mexico for a 5:30 p.m. game on Friday, Nov. 24 and then faces Baptist Bible in a 5 p.m. game on Saturday, Nov. 25.
