PUEBLO, Colo. (November 1, 2023) - The Colorado State University Pueblo women's soccer team dropped its regular season finale 1-0 against University of Colorado Colorado Springs on Wednesday at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium.

The ThunderWolves surrendered a goal in the second half during the 78th minute after playing toe-to-toe with UCCS.

In the match, Cortney Cowles (Jr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) finished with a team-high four shots.

Ashley Bennett (So., Lakeville, Minn.) and Shelby Ransom (Sr., Lakewood, Colo.) ended with two shots apiece for the Pack.

CSU Pueblo outshot the Mountain Lions 11-10 but the visiting team landed six shots on goal.

Through the first half, CSU Pueblo managed five shots and held UCCS to one shot in the period.

In the second period, UCCS started the half by applying pressure against the ThunderWolves defense and caused turnovers in the attacking third of the pitch.

After a series of fouls by both teams, the Mountain Lions was given a free kick from near midfield and Jade Kinsey served in a ball wide which allowed Makayla Merlo to get a header on the ball and find the back of the net.

The ThunderWolves continued to get possession and make a charge at the net but the solid play on defense from the Mountain Lions kept the Pack off the scoreboard.

Pack goalkeeper Nicole Genis (Sr., San Jose, Costa Rica) made five saves against ten shots from UCCS.

CSU Pueblo finishes the regular season with a 7-4-6 record overall and a 5-3-4 clip in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference play.
