PUEBLO, Colo. – The Colorado State University Pueblo women's golf team opened up play here Monday in its annual Sam Proal Invitational by firing an opening round score of 320 as a team to sit in fourth place out of 13 teams at the event being held at the Pueblo Country Club.

CSU Pueblo, who is coached by Tammy Lim, enters Tuesday's final round sitting 18 shots behind first round leader Texas A&M-International, who carded 14-over par 302 in the first round and 11 shots behind second place Midwestern State, who shot a 21-over par 309 as a team. The Pack are two shots behind South Dakota Mines, who shot a 30-over 318 on Monday to sit in third place and are five shots in front of MSU Denver and Dodge City Community College, who each shot 325's as a team to sit in a tie for fifth place.

Leading the way for the Pack in Monday's opening round was junior Zoey Rodriguez (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo South) as she carded a 4-over par 76 to sit in a tie for fifth place. In Monday's first round, Rodriguez recorded two birdies, 11 pars, four bogeys and a double-bogey on the par-5 No. 14 hole.

Rodriguez is one of 11 players within five shots of opening round leader Rianna Garland of South Dakota Mines. Garland was the lone player in the 83 player field to shoot even par or better on Monday as she carded an even-par 72 to lead the tournament by one shot over Yuliana Yapur of Texas A&M-International and Tristan Gabbard of Midwestern State, who shot fired first round scores of 1-over par 73.

In addition to Rodriguez, senior Kylie Severin (Aurora, Colo./Vista Peak Prep) fired a 6-over par 78 to sit in a tie for 12th place. Severin played the front nine of the Pueblo Country Club course at even-par 35 as she carded two of her three birdies in the round on the front nine, before shooting a 6-over par 78 on the back nine.

Junior Anju Ogi (Arvada, Colo./Arvada West) shot an opening round score of 9-over par 81 to sit in a tie for 20th place. Ogi got off to a slow start as she played the front nine at 7-over par 42, before rebounding to shoot a 2-over par 37 on the back nine.

The fourth counter for the Pack in Monday's opening round was freshman Lisa Ekberg (Kungsbacka, Sweden/Aranäsgymnasiet) shot a 13-over par score of 85 to sit in a tie for 41st place. Much like Ogi, Ekberg struggled on the front in the opening round as she shot a 9-over 44 on the front nine, before firing a 4-over 41 on the back nine.

CSU Pueblo's fifth golfer that did not factor into the team score on Monday was sophomore Freya Constable (Edinburgh, Scotland/Boroughmuir), who shot a 20-over par 92 in the first round.

Along with the five members of the team, the Pack also two players competing as individuals at the event – junior Merielle Gojo (Cherry Hills Valley, Colo./Cherry Creek) and freshman Delfin Filiz (Belfast, Northern Ireland/Rockport School).

Gojo carded a 20-over par 92 to sit in a tie for 65th place, while Filiz shot a 22-over par 94 to sit in a tie for 67th place.

The Pack will conclude the two-day, 36-hole event with another 18 holes on Tuesday, Oct. 10 beginning with a shotgun start at 9:30 a.m.
