Volleyball Sweeps Westminster to Conclude Alumni Weekend

PUEBLO, Colo. – The Colorado State University Pueblo volleyball team concluded its Alumni Weekend activities here Saturday evening by sweeping Westminster (25-23, 25-17, 25-13) in Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference action at Massari Arena.
 
With the win, the ThunderWolves snapped a two-match losing skid and improved its record to 6-10 overall and 4-2 in the RMAC, while Westminster fell to 6-11 overall and 3-4 in the RMAC. The sweep was the sixth of the season for the Pack.

"It was great to close this weekend with a win. I thought we did some nice things over the course of the weekend and got a good split," CSU Pueblo volleyball head coach Austin Albers said. "The goal now turns to two tough road matches this week. We have approach practice with a great attitude and effort this week as we get ready to compete away from home."
 
Freshman outside hitter Ceanna O'Loughlin (Beaverton, Ore./Jesuit) paced the Pack offense with a career-high 12 kills and added 11 digs for her first career double-double. She also hit .321 in the win.
 
Sophomore outside hitter Sadie Scoville (Pleasant Grove, Utah/Pleasant Grove) added her seventh double-double of the season with 10 kills and 18 digs and hit .500. She also had two of the Pack's six aces.
 
Sophomore opposite side hitter Kendall Harrington (San Antonio, Texas/Tom C. Clark) had nine kills in the win.
 
Senior setter Grace Jansen (Sandy, Utah/Jordan) set the table for the Pack with 18 assists and added 11 digs, while junior setter Sabrina King (Parker, Colo./Lutheran) had 16 assists.
 
Westminster had three players record six kills, while Abby Reardon had a team-high 12 digs and Mailei Myers had three blocks in the loss.
 
For the match, the Pack hit .221 to .085 for the Griffins, while Westminster outblocked the Pack, 4-3.
 
Set 1: The first set was the most competitive of the three on Saturday evening as it featured eight ties and four lead changes. In the set, the Pack jumped in front 7-4 early on, but the Griffins used a 13-6 run capped by back-to-back aces by Myers to take a 17-13 lead. The Pack, though, would respond with an 8-2 run to take a 21-19 lead. WU would answer back by scoring four of the next five points to take a 23-22 lead. The Pack would close the set by scoring the final three points, including capping the 25-23 win with an ace by King. In the set, the Pack hit .171 with 11 kills, while WU hit .128 and had four aces.
 
Set 2: The Pack dominated the second set as they hit .243 and had 11 kills, including four by Scoville to post a 25-17 win and take a 2-0 lead in the match. In the set, the Pack jumped out a 9-5 lead and led 17-10 when the Griffins used a 4-2 run to pull within 19-14. The Pack would then close out the set by scoring six of the final nine points to earn a 25-17 lead and take a 2-0 lead in the match. Westminster hit .100 in the set.
 
Set 3: The two teams had another hard-fought set in the third as there were a combined six ties and five lead changes. In the set, the Pack held an early 5-4 lead, before the Griffins used a 4-2 run to take an 8-7 lead. The Pack, though, would score 12 of the next 14 points to take a 19-10 lead. After a kill by Breegan Huntsman brought the Griffins within 19-11, the Pack closed out the set by scoring six of the final eight points to seal its sixth sweep of the season and post a 25-13 win. In the set, the Pack hit .250 and held WU to an .023 attack percentage.
 
Up Next: The Pack will return to road next weekend as they travel to Chadron State for a 6 p.m. RMAC match on Thursday, Oct. 12, before concluding the road swing on Saturday, Oct. 14 at Colorado Christian.
