CSU Pueblo drops 2-1 decision at Regis

DENVER, Colo. (October 26, 2023) - The Colorado State University Pueblo men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 decision at Regis on Thursday in a Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference match at Regis Turf Fields.

Despite dominating in the shots category 20-5, CSU Pueblo was unable to find the back of the net in the match. The Pack finished with ten corners and was led offensively by seniors Gabriel Campora (Saltilla, Mexico) and Shjon Andrews (Longmont, Colo.) who finished with a combined eleven shots for the ThunderWolves.

In the first half, the teams battled windy conditions on the pitch and the ThunderWolves played into the wind for the first half. In the period, CSU Pueblo fired nine shots total and had several good chances at the net, causing Regis goalkeeper to make several saves for the Rangers.

The Pack was able to break the scoreless game during the 36' when they took one of three corners in the half and the defense was unsuccessful at clearing the ball and the defender headed the ball into the net for a 1-0 Pack lead.

Entering the second half, CSU Pueblo made six shots at the net but was unable to score the second goal.

In the 69', Regis got on the board on their first shot of the period, tying the match 1-1 with just over twenty minutes left.

With less than seven minutes in regulation, the Rangers was able to possess the ball near midfield and a pass out wide found a trailing Rangers striker and was past the ThunderWolves back line who then went 1v1 with the goalkeeper and fired a shot from near the six-yard box to take a 2-1 lead.

In the final five minutes, CSU Pueblo continued to pressure the Rangers and made six more shots and one landing on frame but strong play at the net from Regis goalkeeper Greg Squire kept the ThunderWolves from scoring.

Pack goalkeeper Tristan Whitlock (So., Lincoln, Neb.) allowed two goals and made one save.

CSU Pueblo (11-4-2, 5-3-1 RMAC) finishes the regular season on Sunday when they travel to take on South Dakota Mines starting at Noon in Rapid City, S.D.
