ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The Colorado State University Pueblo women's golf team began play here Monday in the Nick Turner Invitational by firing a 13-over par score of 301 as a team to sit in third place out of 10 teams at the event being hosted by Fort Lewis College and held at Arroyo del Oso Golf Club.

CSU Pueblo enters Tuesday's final round sitting just six shots behind first round leaders 10th-ranked Cal State San Marcos and 14th-ranked Cal State East Bay, who each shot 7-over par team scores of 295 in Monday's opening round. Western New Mexico is fourth as they carded 16-over 304 in the first round.

Leading the way for the ThunderWolves' in Monday's opening round was junior Zoey Rodriguez (Pueblo, Colo./Pueblo South), who carded an opening round score of 1-under par 71 to sit in a two-way tie for second place with Cal State San Marcos' Lauren Hickam. In Monday's first round, Rodriguez had three birdies, two bogeys and 13 pars on her scorecards and was tied for par-5 hole scoring as she played the course's par-5 holes at 2-under par (4.50).

Cal State East Bay's Jasmin Krishna sits atop the player leaderboard after the opening round as she carded a 2-under par 70.

Rodriguez and Hickam are two of the eight golfers that are within four shots of Krishna's opening round lead entering Tuesday's final round.

In addition to Rodriguez, senior Kylie Severin (Aurora, Colo./Vista Peak Prep) shot an opening round score of 2-over par 74 to sit in a tie for fifth place. Severin recorded two birdies, four bogeys and 13 pars on her first round scorecard and sits tied for second in par-4 scoring as she averaged even-par (4.0) on the par-4 holes.

Freshman Lisa Ekberg (Kungsbacka, Sweden/Aranäsgymnasiet) fired an opening round score of 6-over par 78 to sit in a tie for 32nd place. Ekberg had three birdies, six bogeys, a triple-bogey and eight pars on her opening scorecard and she is tied for second in par-3 scoring as she averaged even-par (3.0) on the course's par-3 holes and is tied for first in par-5 scoring as she averaged 2-under (4.50) on the par-5 holes.

The fourth counter and final counter for the team score on Monday was sophomore Freya Constable (Edinburgh, Scotland/Boroughmuir), who also shot a 6-over par 78 to sit in a tie for 32nd place. Constable had two birdies, four bogeys, two double bogeys and 10 pars on her scorecard and is tied for sixth in par-4 scoring as she averaged 1-over par (4.10) on the par-4 holes.

CSU Pueblo's final competitor for the team on Monday was junior Anju Ogi (Arvada, Colo./Arvada West), who shot a 10-over par 82 to sit in a tie for 46th place. Ogi recorded a birdie, eight bogeys, a triple bogey and eight pars on her scorecard on Monday.

Along with the five members of the team, the Pack also two players competing as individuals at the event – junior Merielle Gojo (Cherry Hills Valley, Colo./Cherry Creek) and freshman Delfin Filiz (Belfast, Northern Ireland/Rockport School).

Gojo opened the tournament with a 5-over par 77 to sit in a tie for 20th place, while Filiz fired a nine-over par 81 to sit in a tie for 40th place overall.

The Pack will conclude the two-day, 36-hole event with another 18 holes on Tuesday, Oct. 17 beginning with a shotgun start at 8:30 a.m. The Pack will be paired with Cal State San Marcos, Cal State East Bay and Western New Mexico in the final round.
