SPEARFISH, S.D. (October 15, 2023) - The Colorado State University Pueblo women's soccer team returned to the win column in a big way, scoring a 4-0 shutout win over Black Hills State on Sunday. Four different players scored for the ThunderWolves.
Madi Reardon (Fr., Pueblo, Colo.),
Makenzi Roth (So., Murrieta, Calif.),
Cortney Cowles (Jr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) and
Katie Bean (R-Jr., Bothell, Wash.) each registered goals in the win.
In the match, CSU Pueblo outshot the Yellow Jackets by a 13-10 clip, and the home team earned two corners against one for the Pack.
The ThunderWolves got on the board early after working the ball around the defense and making a charge at the net from midfield.
Shelby Ransom (Sr., Lakewood, Colo.) and Cowles played the ball around the defense and a pass ahead into the crease ahead to Reardon put the ball at her feeet as she entered the box.
Reardon fired the ball with a defender on her heels and past the diving goalkeeper for the 1-0 lead.
The next score came in the 35' after the ThunderWolves pressured a goal kick, causing the defense to turn the ball over in the ThunderWolves attacking zone and Roth intercepted the ball and dribbled twice before launching a shot high and under the crossbar for her first goal of the season.
At the half, CSU Pueblo made six shots and earned one corner.
The third goal came midway through the second period when the Pack was given a free kick outside the box and Cowles stepped up and fired the ball high and past a wall of five defenders for her fifth goal of the year.
The ThunderWolves added another goal fifteen minutes later when Bean took a long ball pass that landed in front of the net and after a scramble, Bean was able to get a knee on the ball, nudging it inside the left post for the commanding 4-0 lead.
Yesenia Valdez (R-Fr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) earned an assist on the play.

Nicole Genis (Sr., San Jose, Costa Rica) made four saves in over 75 minutes of action.
Jacqueline Dominguez (R-Jr., Watkins, Colo.) came on to cover the net over the last fifteen minutes and faced two shots and made no saves.
CSU Pueblo (4-3-5, 2-2-3 RMAC) returns home next week and welcomes Westminster on Friday and will host Colorado Mesa on Sunday, both matches at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium.
