PUEBLO, Colo. (October 20, 2023) - With two weeks left in the regular season, Colorado State University Pueblo women's soccer earned a much needed conference point after playing Westminster to a 0-0 tie on Friday at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium.
With the draw, CSU Pueblo now stands at 4-3-5 overall and hold a 2-2-3 Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference record.
In the match, both teams finished with nine shots apiece and for the Pack,
Cortney Cowles (Jr., Colorado Springs, Colo.) led all players with three shots and two landing on goal.
Through the first period, the ThunderWolves recorded six shots against five from the Griffins. The Pack had several scoring opportunities including midway through the first half after a pair of shots in a five minute span kept the visitors on their heels.
During the 42', Cowles registered back-to-back shots on goal that was saved by Westminster goalkeeper Brighton Jakeman.
The second half was a lot of the same action with both teams exchanging possession to start the period.
The Pack had one good look at the net early in the half and was saved once again at the net.
Defensively, the ThunderWolves back line of
Kia Comstock (R-Jr., Rock Springs, Wyo.),
Sienna Gargano (Jr., Washington, Utah) and
Ariadna Membrives Lora (Jr., Sabadell, Barcelona) each had strong outings and helped to defend off any big scoring threat from the Griffins.
At the net,
Nicole Genis (Sr., San Jose, Costa Rica) made four saves and faced four shots on goal and nine total in the match.
CSU Pueblo returns to the pitch on Sunday and welcomes No. 6 Colorado Mesa for a RMAC battle starting at Noon at Art & Lorraine Gonzales Stadium.
